White Bean Turkey Chili

Ground turkey, beans, and tomatoes simmer in beef broth and some spices. This turkey chili is a warm bowl of comfort. Don’t forget the corn chips and sour cream!  WHITE BEAN TURKEY CHILI | www.togetherasfamily.com

Chili is one of my favorite things to cook for dinner. Especially on a cold Fall night served with some warm cornbread. So yummy! I also love chili because it always makes a ton, which means there are plenty of leftovers. I count on getting 2 meals out of chili; chili the first night with all the toppings, and then the next night (or a few days later) make some cornbread waffles and top with some leftover chili that you reheat and then use the same chili toppings. It’s really good.

We are firm believers that you cannot have chili without fritos chips to dip in it. I always serve some sour cream, chopped green onions, and shredded cheese alongside of it too. Some people may prefer tortilla chips or even cornbread. Here is a yummy cornbread recipe that I have made more times than I can count. To make honey butter, I just soften a stick of butter in the microwave and then pour some honey in and mix it up. I never measure, but I would guess that I use 1/4 cup of honey. I don’t make cornbread a lot because I love it too much 🙂 and I always end up eating way too much of it…..

I hope y’all get the chance to try this recipe out. I love that it has all white beans. Did you know that the cannellini beans that it calls for are actually white kidney beans? I did not know that until I made this recipe. So, you get the normal chili bean (aka- the kidney bean) but in white and not red. It’s really yummy, so comforting, and homey. Don’t be scared away with the cocoa powder. It provides a deep, rich flavor but it does not taste like unsweetened chocolate at all. You know that bitter unsweetened chocolate flavor? Yep, not here. Just pure deliciousness and comfort in a bowl.

White Bean Turkey Chili

  • 1.25 lbs ground turkey
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons cumin
  • 3 cans (15 oz each) white cannellini beans, drained and rinsed
  • 1 can (28 oz) petite diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 2 teaspoons chili powder
  • 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

  1. In a large soup pot cook ground turkey and chopped onion over medium-high heat until turkey is no longer pink. Drain. Add cumin and oregano, stir, and cook for 1 minutes longer.
  2. Stir in beans, tomatoes, beef broth, tomato sauce, chili powder, cocoa powder, and salt. Bring to a low boil and then reduce heat to medium-low and let simmer for 45 + minutes (I usually let it simmer for at least an hour).
