There are only a few things that I absolutely cannot buy the jarred version of anymore; salsa is #1, pizza sauce (recipe coming soon), and refried beans. I’m totally not one of those people that make all their bread or make their own yogurt —-> which that is a real thing I guess. Just search for it on Pinterest. And, if I had any talent with bread making than I might make my own bread 🙂

Which, speaking of making bread my friend showed up on my doorstep yesterday with a warm loaf of homemade bread and strawberry & peach freezer jam. Oh my word! Just amazing. People who can make bread or my favorite kind of people.

Anyways, I love salsa but it has to be homemade. Trust me, this homemade salsa literally takes 5 minutes to throw everything into the blender or food processor. Fresh and fabulous salsa in less time than it takes to blow dry your hair. You can’t beat that.

I was seriously craving chips & salsa the other day. I’ll just go ahead and blame it on the pregnancy 🙂 My craving was so bad that I actually took all 3 of my kids out into the 100 degree heat to buy the ingredients. But, it was so worth it. I’ve been eating this salsa  non-stop for the past couple of days. Breakfast, lunch, snack, you name it and I’ve been eating it.

If you have never tried making your own salsa then this is the perfect recipe to start with. Very basic & simple ingredients. The recipe as written is not spicy. If you prefer it spicier then leave the jalapeno seeds. I chose to take out the seeds. The seeds of the jalapeno is what makes it spicy.

I love the flavor of the fire roasted tomatoes but if you want just a regular tomato salsa, then try this recipe for HOMEMADE SALSA. I make it all the time too.

Fire Roasted Salsa

The salsa will thicken up sightly after being in the fridge for a few hours

Ingredients

  • 2 cans (14.5 oz each) fire roasted diced tomatoes, undrained
  • 1/2 of a sweet onion, roughly chopped
  • 1 Jalapeno, sliced and seeded
  • 1 handful cilantro, roughly chopped
  • Juice of 1/2 a lime
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon granulated sugar

Instructions

  1. Combine all ingredients into a food processor or a blender. Pulse until desired consistency is reached.
  2. This gets better after sitting in the fridge for 2-3 hours, but is still delicious if eaten right away.
  3. Eat as chips & dip or use in any recipe that calls for salsa.
