In my house we have no allergies to foods or diet restrictions (like gluten-free, etc) so I have lots of choice of what to make for my family. Since starting this food blog I have quickly realized that many families do have allergies to look out for or certain diet restrictions.ย

I posted these {no egg} banana chocolate chip cookies a couple months ago and I have had so many comments saying “thank you for sharing an egg free cookie recipe”. I’ll be honest and say that it never occurred to me that there is a demand for cookies without eggs.ย

That’s one of my favorite things that I have come to love about having a food blog. I have learned about the wide variety of food allergies that a lot of parents have to deal with when it comes to feeding their family. And, because y’all are my favorite, I have made it a goal to post more of that stuff. I’ll try anyway ๐Ÿ™‚ย

I was skeptical about these cookies at first. I mean, can cream cheese really take the place of an egg? I was blown away with the finished cookie. You guys?! You can actually taste the cream cheese. Not in a bad way, but in a creamy way. These cookies taste creamy. That’s supposed to be a good thing, haha ๐Ÿ™‚ It might not sound good but trust me, it is.ย

Normally the egg provides a richness to the cookie and the creamy cream cheese totally mimics that. I don’t know the “food science” behind it all, but I do know that it works. These really are so good.ย

They taste like a classic chocolate chip cookie but obviously they are not because there are no eggs.

Be sure and use milk chocolate chips. I used to always semi-sweet because that’s what I remember using growing up, but ever since replacing it with milk chocolate, my cookie making life has changed.ย

Normally, I tell you to add some additional chocolate chips on top of the dough balls (before baking) so that way you end up with “pretty cookies”. You don’t have to do that with these ones. I tried a batch of each and I actually preferred the final look and texture of the cookies that had no additional chocolate chips on the top.ย

My family can’t resist a classic chocolate chip cookie which is why Sunday’s are our cookie baking day. The most requested are good ol’ classic chocolate chip cookies. Oh, and these monster cookies take a close second.

Enjoy these my friends!

Ingredients

  • 6 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 12 tablespoons butter, melted and cooled
  • 1 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups plus 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 cups milk chocolate chips

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees and line baking sheets with parchment paper or silpat liners.
  • In a large bowl or the bowl of an electric stand mixer, cream together the cream cheese, melted butter and sugars until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes.
  • Add in vanilla extract and mix together.
  • Add the baking soda, salt, and flour and mix just until combined.
  • Fold in the chocolate chips and mix.
  • Roll dough into 2" balls (about the size of a golf ball) and place on a cookie sheet. Flatten the tops down slightly with your palm. Very gently, you don't want the dough ball to be flat at all. Just the tops of them.
  • Bake for 12-14 minutes or until the edges are just barely golden brown but the cookie still looks pale in color.
  • Let the cookies cool for a few minutes on the baking sheet and then transfer to a cooling rack to cool completely.

Notes

You want very soft cream cheese to avoid a lumpy batter. I put mine in a microwave safe bowl and microwave it for about 30 seconds or until it's really soft.

For a quick way to let melted butter cool. Only melt the butter halfway, meaning that half is melted but you still have a chunk of butter. Stir with a fork until the larger, softer chunk melts into it. The butter will be melted but also a cooler temperature because you did not melt it all the way in the hot microwave.
