Β This past Saturday it RAINED. ALL. DAY! I don’t know about you but on rainy days I love to get cozy on the couch with a blanket and read a book, binge watch Netflix, or browse Pinterest πŸ™‚ But, then reality sets in and I realize I can’t because I haveΒ 4 kids…… It’s nice to think about one day doing that on a rainy day!

Anyways, on said rainy day I was browsing some of my pins and I saw THESE. I had been saving these in the ‘one day I want to make these but change up the recipe a bit’ pile. But since seeing them I could not stop thinking about them. I just knew that I had to try it out. So I did πŸ™‚ With the help of my cute 3 year old sous chef.

Β The original recipe calls for a store-bought log of chocolate chip cookie dough and I just can’t seem to bring myself to buy one of those. I used my chocolate chip cookie recipe and scaled it back to where it would only make enough for like 4 cookies. And, it worked!

Feel free to buy some pre-made store bought dough, no judging here, promise!

All you have to do is unroll some crescent dough, fill it with an easy homemade chocolate chip cookie dough, roll it up (like cinnamon rolls) and bake it in a pie plate. When it’s done baking simple mix up a quick glaze and drizzle it over. So simple and incredibly delicious. Tastes like a warm chocolate chip cookie inside butter bread πŸ™‚

Ingredients

    cookie sweet rolls
  • 1 can (8 oz) Pillsbury crescent rolls
  • 2 tablespoons butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • pinch of salt
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup chocolate chips, divided
  • glaze
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 tablespoon whole milk or heavy cream

Instructions

  • Heat oven to 350. Spray a round cake pan or a glass pie plate with cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Unroll crescent dough and combine the dough into one large rectangle. Pinch the seams together.
  • Prepare cookie dough by combining the softened butter, brown sugar, and sugar in small bowl and mix with a fork. Add in vanilla, egg yolk, mix again. Add in the baking soda, salt, and flour, stir lightly until just combined. Add in 2 tablespoons of the chocolate chips.
  • Take cookie dough and drop little pieces of it all over the large rectangle of crescent dough. It does not have to be perfectly spread over the whole thing, just make sure there are little pieces of it in most areas of the dough.
  • Roll up the dough, starting from the long side of the rectangle shape. Cut into 10 'cinnamon roll' type pieces. Place into your prepared pan.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes. The bottom and sides will begin to turn a golden brown and the cookie dough will look like it's not done, but just like when baking cookies, once you let it all cool it will come together.
  • When the sweet rolls are done baking, take the remaining chocolate chips and place them inside the cracks of the rolls. Let cool for 10 minutes.
  • Combine the powdered sugar and milk to make a glaze. Use a spoon to put the glaze over the sweet rolls, or place the glaze in a ziploc sandwich bag and cut the corner.

Notes

The original recipe says to bake these for 30 minutes but the crescent roll package says 10-12 minutes. Set the timer for 12 minutes and then check on them. Mine were perfect at 15 minutes.

You can use half of a roll of store-bought cookie dough in place of the homemade cookie dough, if desired.

July 2, 2015 at 7:26 am Yum! What a fun and delicious idea. I keep thinking those fun rainy days on the couch will happen sometime too. For some reason little man (and the rest of life) don't allow it. I also think when he's sick we should cuddle on the couch and watch movies, but he didn't get that memo either! Maybe someday!

July 2, 2015 at 10:16 pm It's fun to dream, right?! :) Sometimes, when my kids are sick they want to cuddle on the couch, but not every time. I'll take what I can get I guess.
