It’s party time! on Together as Family. My blog is officially 1 years old! I seriously cannot believe I’ve been doing this dream of mine for an entire year. I have loved, seriously loved, every day and minute of it.

I started this blog at a hard time of my life. My husband and I packed up our home, our life, everything we knew, my family, comfort zone and moved across the country to Maryland. We had been living here for 3 years when I hit a really rocky time of life. I had been dealing with postpartum anxiety/depression. I felt alone, disconnected from everybody, I was having a hard time being away from my supportive family, I had just had our 3rd child, my husband was working long hours, my oldest was in preschool, I had just turned 30, and I honestly felt lost and felt like I was just watching my life pass me by.

I ask myself all the time why I felt that way? I have a loving and supportive husband, healthy & happy kids, a home, I’m able to stay home with my kids, and basically to a person on the outside I had everything I needed. But on the inside I felt alone, lost, empty, frazzled, angry, not myself, sad, and completely overwhelmed with being in Maryland trying to build a new life away from what felt like home to me.

One thing that has always brought me happiness is feeding other people, sharing recipes, and being together with family & close friends over some warm & delicious home cooked food. For me, I show my love for others through food. Being in the kitchen is my stress reliever. Now, I wish I could say ‘being at the gym is my stress reliever’ but we can’t all be amazing like that, now can we?! 🙂

I suppose that’s where this blog came into play. A time of my life that I needed that feeling again. That feeling of love, acceptance, belonging, laughing with family, being close to those I love, sharing recipes, and cooking for others. This blog has literally changed my life. You readers have literally changed my life. I feel like I am finally finding home here in Maryland through this blog. As crazy and weird as that may sound, this blog has really helped me find myself again and find my passion again for something. I feel more and more like myself and the old me each day. I’m happy again, learning to be content with where we live, I’m smiling & laughing again, I enjoy precious moments with my kids instead of feeling anxious and overwhelmed, I am choosing to be positive and find the beautiful things in life each day. I am far from perfect and far from where I want to be, but I feel like I am headed in the right direction. I think is all that we can ask from each other; that we’re trying our best each day to be the best person we can.

You readers are my family & friends and {{virtually}} I love sharing recipes and cooking for you all ♥ ♥ ♥

I wanted to share some BEHIND THE SCENES with y’all. I read other blogs and I often wonder, “What are they really like?” “What is life really like for them?” “How does a blog work?”

  • When I first started the blog I was ecstatic each day that I got 100 views/visits to my blog. Now, 1 year later, I am getting thousands and thousand of daily views/visits. It’s amazing how this blog has grown to something so much more than I could have imagined in only 1 year.
  • My picture & baking assistants are my 4 year old and 1 year old. The 4 year old loves to help pour ingredients and learn about cooking, while the 1 year old likes to stand at the oven door looking inside and saying “WOW!” 🙂 One of them is always in the kitchen with me and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
  • I am so so so terribly bad at laundry. Anyone who has ever been to my house can attest to this. I always have a permanent fixture of a laundry pile on my couch. It never ever goes away. Even if I fold it and put it away, there is always another pile there. I’ve gotten used to it by now. We’ve all gotten used to only having 1 couch downstairs to sit on.
  • I take all my pictures with my iphone 5S. Of course, I think they could be better but people are always surprised when I tell them that.
  • After my kids are in bed, I spend my evenings doing social media —-> which is a lot of work! I never realized that that would be the biggest time consumer. And, while working away on my computer, I watch my favorite shows; Real Housewives (yes, don’t judge, it’s my guilty pleasure), Survivor, The Bachelor, The Blacklist, NCIS: Los Angeles, and Scandal.
  • My husband deals with all the tech stuff during his free time because I have no clue when it comes to computers, technology, etc.
  • I am so old that I had to google ‘how does Twitter work?’ For real. It’s pathetic, really……

Enough about me and the blog! Let’s get to the FUN STUFF! What would any party be without some dessert and sprinkles!

All week to celebrate I am going to be posting funfetti/sprinkles/cake batter goodies! So, if you don’t like sprinkles (do those people even exist 🙂 ) or you’re not a fan of boxed funfetti cake mix then, look away…… but, come back next week because I have some delish dinner ideas to share.

I have made these rainbow rice krispie treats 3 times in the past two weeks! Yup! That’s how yummy and easy they are. The first time I made them they were eaten so fast that I did not even have a chance to photograph them. So, naturally I just had to make them again. And then again, just because 🙂

Line your pan with tin foil and then spray the tin foil with some cooking spray. That way when you’re ready to cut the bars all you have to do is lift out the foil and then cut. Super easy and you get really nice cut lines, which I am a big fan of.

March 6, 2016 at 10:11 pm Literally, I feel as if you and I are beyond even kindred spirits!! Except I was bedridden for 2 and 1/2 years after a multitude of illnesses and surgeries. We also moved from the home I had lived in the longest in my 54 years. From Wisconsin to Arizona. Almost 3years now. Was still very weak sickly year 1.Blessed with a gifted surgeon, excellent primary, and even my dentist, have all made it possible to live a normal life now. Some restrictions, but better than bedridden, with little hope of bettering my quality of life. Having always been a foodie, I too show my love with food. Since college, had a knack for cooking and baking.A year ago, discovered food blogs. Now subscribe to hundreds. Yes,I read, pin, print daily.Pinterest addict, upon signing up in November. Close to 1300 followers. Makes me happy to share! Am not savvy at tech stuff either. No clue how you do it sweetie! Really would love to start a blog myself, no clue. Have years of recipes, decent photographer, and I think I have an eye for good recipes. (insert wonky face). Anyway, congrats, and you are on my list of faves and mentors!!! Kudos to you for such honesty and sincerity in sharing your struggles. What a strong, loving, devoted wife, Mother, blogger!! I,for one can not say thanks and I would have never guessed you have only been doing this for a year!! Wow! Amazing!! Probably seems lame, to be excited by 1300 followers.I sort of feel productive I guess. Like I put together a cookbook for free. Lots of hours daily. Great job and blessings to you and your family!!!
