Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 can (15 oz) black beans drained & rinsed
  • 1/2 cup salsa
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 packet taco seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon cumin

Instructions

  • In a skillet pan, over medium-high heat, add the olive oil and ground turkey. Cook and crumble until ground turkey is no longer pink. Drain excess grease & liquid.
  • Add the black beans, salsa, water, taco seasoning, and dried seasonings. Stir until combined well.
Reduce heat to medium (or medium-low if needed) and let simmer for 10 minutes. Stirring occasionally.
  • Serve taco meat inside flour tortillas or crunchy corn shells and top with all your favorite toppings. We like green lettuce, chopped tomato, shredded cheese, and sour cream.

Notes

Ground Turkey : I use 93/7 ground turkey.
Salsa : For best taste use a fresh salsa. You can find fresh salsa in the refrigerated area of the produce section in the grocery store. Jarred salsa can be used but the tacos are really good with a fresh, cold salsa.
Taco Seasoning : I use a packet of mild taco seasoning when I make these. You can use regular or even a hot taco seasoning if wanted.
Spicy : Add chili powder or cayenne pepper, use hot taco seasoning, top tacos with jalapeños, use a medium or hot salsa, and you can also top it with shredded Pepper Jack cheese.
Olive Oil : I use extra-virgin light tasting olive oil in my kitchen. It does not have a heavy olive taste at all. It actually has no taste and it's lighter in color.
Serving Size : Depending on how much taco meat each person takes, could change the serving size. Because of the added beans I have found that we can get around 10-12 tacos with this recipe.
