Ingredients

  • 2/3 cup strawberry syrup *see notes
  • 2/3 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 3 cups cold water

Garnishes

  • sliced or halved strawberries
  • sliced limes
  • ice cubes

Instructions

  • In a glass pitcher, whisk together the strawberry syrup and fresh lime juice.
  • Gradually add in the cold water, while whisking, until mixed together.
    * To make a sparkling strawberry limeade, use Sprite or 7-up instead. Zero sugar works also. If you don't want to use soda, try using club soda or sparkling water instead.
  • Chill the strawberry limeade in the fridge for at least 1 hour before serving for best results.
    * I think the drink tastes best if it has had time to refrigerate before serving it over ice. You can serve it immediately over some ice in a cup if wanted. This drink can be made 1-4 hours ahead of time and chill in the fridge until serving.
  • Pour the strawberry limeade over some ice inside a glass cup. Garnish with halved strawberries and fresh lime slices.

Notes

Strawberry Syrup : I use the Torani brand of strawberry flavored syrup in this recipe. It's the same thing that is used for flavored soda drinks or Italian sodas. This is NOT the ice cream sundae strawberry syrup.
If you don't want to buy the syrup, you can combine chopped strawberries with sugar, let it marinate for 30 minutes at room temperature, and then dump it into a strainer (with a bowl underneath to catch the juice). This way you end up with the sweetened strawberry syrup and none of the seeds or anything.
Sparkling : Use Sprite or 7-up (Zero Sugar versions work well too) instead of water. You can also use club soda, sparkling plain water, or try using a flavored sparkling water (lime, strawberry, etc).
Lime Juice : Please do not use bottled lime juice. Use freshly squeezed lime juice for the best taste.
Chill Time : I like to make this drink ahead of time (2-4 hours ahead) and let it hang out in the fridge, with no ice cubes or garnishes, until it's time for serving. This way, the drink gets extra cold and the flavors develop more. I think it's best served ice cold from the fridge and poured over ice in a glass cup. I then put some fresh lime slices and strawberries on top of the drink, and add some paper straws.
Leftovers : Will keep well in the fridge for 5-7 days. If you are storing leftover limeade with fresh fruit inside of it, leftovers will last about 3 days.
