  • Cook in the oven for 2-3 minutes.
    * The candy melts should look shiny but they should still be in their original shape. Check at 2 minutes to see. If the candy melts are not in their shape then you have cooked them for too long.
  • Remove the cookie sheet from the oven and immediately place a decorative red heart on each candy melt.

  • Allow the pretzels to set at room temperature, on the same cookie sheet, for 30 minutes before eating.

Notes

Recipe Tips -
  • Don't Overbake : When you take the pan out of the oven the candy melts should look shiny but they should still be in their original shape! If they are not in their original shape that means that have been in there too long, and once you press the heart on the chocolate will just fall over the sides. Set the cook time at the lowest and watch from there.
  • Pretzels : Although I recommend, and highly suggest using the square 'snap' pretzels, you can substitute with regular pretzel twists.
  • Red Heart Substitutes : If you're having trouble finding these then there are a couple of options. Use red sprinkles, Christmas themed sprinkles, go to a craft store and get those red ball sprinkles (the larger ball shaped) and place one of those on each pretzel bite. You could even use a red hot cinnamon candy and place one of those on each candy melt. Or try a red m&m instead.
  • Serving Size : Make as many, or as little, as you want! Just make sure you have enough candy melts, pretzels, and red hearts for however many you are making. The recipe makes 42 pretzel bites because there are 42 light green candy melts in one bag. So buy an additional bag candy melts if you want more. The bag of pretzels has plenty in it so one bag is just fine.
Light Green Candy Melts : These can be sometimes tricky to find around the Holidays. I always have good luck finding them at a store like Walmart in the cake decorating aisle. So not the baking aisle, but rather the cake decorating one. Craft stores also carry the candy melts by Wilton.
They are round disc shaped chocolate melts by the brand Wilton. There are lots of green color options but the 'light green' color most resembles the Grinch.
If all else fails use a Hershey's chocolate kiss for the center of the pretzels rather than the green candy melt. Or try using a red candy melt instead of the green and then top it off with green sprinkles.
Red Candy Heart : I have ordered the red heart shaped sprinkles on Amazon before. Also, try looking in the cake decorating aisle for some as well. If you can't find them anywhere then try using red sprinkles instead like the larger ball shaped sprinkles that you can find at craft stores, or just the regular red sprinkles work as well.
If you have leftover Valentine's Day sprinkles then pick out the red hearts from that mix. That is usually what I end up doing and it works great! No one will know the difference.
