Ingredients

  • 24 pretzel rods
  • 4 cups white chocolate chips (or vanilla almond bark, white chocolate melting wafers, or white candy melts)
  • 1/2 cup pink candy melts
  • 1/2 cup light blue candy melts
  • 1/2 cup yellow candy melts
  • pastel Easter sprinkles
  • 24 Peeps bunnies (any color or assorted colors)

Instructions

  • Line a cookie sheet, or the counter top, with parchment paper or wax paper.
  • Add the white chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl and heat for 1 minute. Stir. Continue heating in 30-second increments, stirring after each, until it's melted and smooth.
Carefully pour the melted white chocolate into a tall jar or cup (this will make it easier to dip the pretzel rod into the chocolate).
  • Dip a pretzel rod ¾ of the way into the melted white chocolate. Allow the excess to drip off and place it on the parchment paper. Repeat with the remaining pretzel rods.

  • Melt the colored candy melts, in separate bowls, according to package directions.
Place each color of the melted candy melts into a ziplock bag or small piping bag. Snip a small piece off of the bottom corner.
    * I use a sandwich size ziplock bag, place it into a cup, and that way it's easier to pour the melted chocolate into the bag.
  • Drizzle the melted candy melts over the white chocolate dipped portion of the pretzel rod. Repeat with all the colors.
Immediately add some sprinkles onto the wet drizzle from the melted candy melts.

  • Use some of the remaining candy melts, or melted white chocolate, to use as 'glue' to attach the Peeps onto the top part of each pretzel rod.
  • Allow the Pretzel rods to set at room temperature for about 20 minutes before serving.

Notes

Colored Candy Melts : These can be found in the cake decorating aisle of Wal-Mart or any craft store. The craft stores also have a brand called 'melt ems' that will also work in place of the candy melts. Feel free to use all 3 colors, only use one color, or change up the colors to whatever you want. You need a total of 1.5 cups of candy melts and they can be any color you want, or all one color. Just make sure that you melt the candy melts in separate bowls. Don't melt the colors together 😉
White Chocolate For Dipping : The recipe calls for 4 cups of white chocolate chips but there are other options. I always use the Ghirardelli brand white chocolate melting wafers (linked above in the recipe). They melt so easy and smooth. You can also use white candy melts OR vanilla flavored almond bark in place of the white chocolate chips.
Pretzel Rods : I used the Snyder's brand pretzel rods. Don't confuse these for 'pretzel sticks'. The sticks won't work in this recipe. You want the rods which are much bigger, thicker, and sturdier for dipping them into the chocolate and holding the Peep on it.
Presentation Tip : For a cleaner and more uniform look, once the white chocolate has hardened after about 10 minutes, you can use a butter knife to trim the excess chocolate from the rods. When you lay the pretzel rods on the parchment paper (after they have been dipped) there will be some extra chocolate on the bottom, you can easily trim it to clean the rod back up again if wanted.
Packaging Idea : Make these with your kids and package them up all pretty to take to friends and neighbors. Grab some cellophane plastic bags (there are ones specifically made for pretzel rods in the cake decorating aisle at Walmart or craft stores). Tie it with some pretty pastel ribbon, or Easter bunny ribbon, and hand them out. Another fun idea is to put some easter grass into a treat container and then put the Peeps pretzel rods on top of the easter grass.
Peeps : The candy melts dry pretty quickly so you want to immediately 'glue' the peep onto the pretzel rod. Don't wait even a second. Put the melted candy melts on the back of the Peep and immediately press it onto the pretzel rod. I recommend using the bunnies because they are flat and will stick better to the pretzel. Feel free to use any color of Peeps that you want!
