Ingredients

  • 12 large strawberries
  • 6 ounces bright white candy melts
  • 2 tablespoons blue sanding sugar/patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prep : Place the strawberries into a colander or strainer and rinse them under cold water. Place them on a layer of paper towels, on the counter top, and let them dry. It's helpful to use a paper towel to gently blot them dry to speed up the process.
Prep : Place a piece of wax paper or parchment paper on the counter top to use for the dipped strawberries, for later.
Prep : Add some blue sanding sugar to a small bowl and set aside for later.
    * It's super important that the strawberries are dry before you dip them. If they are wet at all, the chocolate won't stay on them.

  • Add the bright white candy melts to a microwave-safe bowl and microwave at 50% power for 30 seconds, then stir. Continue melting in 30-second increments until smooth and creamy.
6 ounces bright white candy melts
  • Working with one strawberry at a time, take a strawberry and dip it 3/4 of the way into the melted white candy melts.
Next, sprinkle or dip the bottom 1/3 of the white dipped part of the strawberry into the blue sanding sugar. Place it on the piece of wax paper or parchment paper.
    Repeat for each strawberry.
  • Allow the strawberries to dry for 30 minutes, at room temperature, before serving.

Notes

Candy Melts : The recipe only calls for 6 ounces which is half of a 12 ounce bag. The candy melts come in a 12 ounce size bag, so just eyeball it and use half of them.
Other Options : You can also buy a bag of white melting wafers (Ghiradelli brand) that come in a 10 oz bag. Or use white almond bark (although I think the candy melts or melting wafers are best). I don't recommend using white chocolate chips as they are harder to melt smooth.
Sanding Sugar/Sprinkles : The blue sanding sugar is the really fine sprinkles that are easily found in the baking aisle by the other sprinkles. You can also use any 4th of July themed sprinkles you want.
Melting Tool : Sometimes using one of these is helpful, but I find it easier to just hold the top of the strawberry with my fingers and then dip the strawberry into the white candy melts.
