Oven Baked BBQ Chicken Drumsticks

You're going to love these BBQ Chicken Drumsticks - crispy on the outside, and moist, tender, and juicy on the inside. Made with a spice rub, olive oil and your favorite sweet & tangy barbecue sauce - this barbecue chicken dish practically makes itself while roasting in the oven to tender and crispy perfection.

Ingredients

  • 8 fresh chicken drumsticks
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil (I use extra-virgin olive oil)
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 teaspoons onion powder
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup BBQ sauce

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 400℉. Line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Set aside. 
  • Pat the chicken drumsticks dry with a paper towel.

  • In a small bowl mix together the olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, smoked paprika, chili powder, kosher salt, and black pepper.

  • Rub the oil and spice mixture all over the chicken drumsticks and place them onto the prepared baking sheet. 
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the chicken is nearly cooked. Remove the chicken from the oven and brush each drumsticks generously with BBQ sauce.
  • Return the chicken to the oven and bake for an additional 10-15 minutes or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165℉, and the bbq sauce is caramelized. 
  • Let the chicken rest at room temperature for a few minutes before serving warm. Enjoy!

Serving Size : Nutrition information is for 8 chicken drumsticks with 4 servings - each serving is 2 chicken drumsticks. 
Chicken Drumsticks : For best results I highly recommend using fresh chicken drumsticks from the grocery store. If you must use frozen, ensure they are completely thawed before beginning the recipe. 
Crispy Skin? : For crispy skin, broil the chicken drumsticks for the last 2-3 minutes of cooking, watching carefully to prevent burning.
Marinate : For extra flavor, marinate the chicken drumsticks in the spice + olive oil mixture for 1-4 hours before baking them.
