Ingredients

  • 25 mini pretzel twists
  • 1 cup white chocolate chips (*see notes)
  • teaspoons vegetable shortening OR canola oil (only if using white chocolate chips)
  • 50 candy eyeballs

Instructions

  • Line a cookie sheet or baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Combine the white chocolate chips and shortening (or oil) in a microwave-safe bowl. Melt the white chocolate in 20 second intervals, stirring after each interval. Once the chocolate is melted and smooth it's done.
    * Take care to not overcook the white chocolate chips or else it will seize up.
    * If using almond bark, white candy melts, or white chocolate melting wafers melt the chocolate according to the package directions. No need to use shortening or oil if using one of these options.
  • Working one pretzel at a time, dip the pretzel into the melted chocolate with a fork. Gently tap the fork against the side of the bowl to remove excess chocolate. Transfer the pretzel to the parchment paper and gently press 2 candy eyeballs into the pretzel, while the chocolate is still wet.
    Repeat with remaining pretzels.
  • Transfer the baking sheet to the fridge for 1 hour to allow the chocolate to set and harden.

Notes

White Chocolate : There are several options of what you can use here. For a fool-proof option I recommend using vanilla flavored almond bark, white candy melts (Wilton brand found in the cake decorating aisle) or white chocolate melting wafers (Ghiradlli brand found in the baking aisle).
If using the white chocolate chips you will need to add the shortening or oil to prevent it from seizing up in the microwave.
Nutrition Information : This is for one pretzel using the white chocolate chips and shortening.
Serving Size : This recipe makes 25 ghost pretzels. If you need more simply double the amounts of everything.
Decoration Variations : Try using gel food coloring (orange or green) for a colored dipped pretzel. The green makes for a good monster with the candy eyeballs. If you can't find the candy eyeballs then try dipping the pretzels, and then drizzling some orange or black candy melts over the pretzels, and decorating with some Halloween sprinkles. I also like to use the leftover white chocolate to drizzle over the dipped pretzels for some added texture to the ghosts. I do this with a fork before I place the eyeballs on it. You can also make these look like mummy pretzels by drizzling some additional white chocolate over the pretzel and the eyeballs.
