Ingredients

Sauce

  • 1/4 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil

For The Grill

  • 4 ground beef patties
  • 4 teaspoons hamburger seasoning
  • 4 slices provolone cheese
  • 8 pineapple slices or rings

Serving The Burgers

  • 4 hawaiian hamburger buns (toasted on grill or broiled in oven)
  • green lettuce leaves
  • sliced tomato
  • sliced red onion

Instructions

  • Prep : Preheat your grill to medium high heat and grease generously with cooking spray or oil.
  • Make The Sauce : In a small bowl whisk together the teriyaki sauce, honey, and sesame oil until combined. Set aside for later.
1/4 cup teriyaki sauce, 2 tablespoons honey, 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • Set out the patties and pat 1 teaspoon of hamburger seasoning into each patty, making sure to distribute it evenly on both sides.
4 ground beef patties, 4 teaspoons hamburger seasoning
  • Place the patties onto the hot grill and cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until it reaches an internal temperature of 165℉.
After flipping the patties and when they're almost cooked, add 1 tablespoon of the sauce on top of each patty and then add a slice of cheese.
    4 slices provolone cheese
  • While the patties are cooking, place the pineapple rings on the grill and cook for 2-3 minutes per side. After flipping, brush some sauce over each pineapple ring.
Remove from the grill onto a plate when they're done.
    8 pineapple slices or rings

Assemble & Serve The Burgers

  • Place the bottom bun onto a plate and cover it with a leaf of green lettuce. Top the lettuce with a cooked burger patty from the grill, then add 2 grilled pineapple slices, tomato slices, and red onion slices.
4 hawaiian hamburger buns, green lettuce leaves, sliced tomato, sliced red onion
  • Drizzle any leftover sauce over the assembled burger and top with the other bun.
    * If you want extra sauce to spread on the buns, I suggest doubling the sauce recipe. The amount listed makes just enough to brush on the patties and pineapple slices.

Notes

Ground Beef Patties : You will find these prepared in ready-to-use packages at the grocery store. I love using the patties because they are already shaped perfectly and it makes prep really easy. They also sell larger packs with more patties in them - if you're making these burgers for more people. If using frozen patties, be sure and let them thaw completely in the refrigerator before grilling and seasoning.
Pineapple Slices/Rings : Lots of options here! I think fresh pineapple tastes best so I buy a pineapple and use a pineapple corer/slicer on it, or I buy a container of fresh pineapple rings that are ready to use at the grocery store. You can use canned pineapple rings but they are softer so they may have a harder time being grilled - but they should work just fine.
Toasted Hamburger Buns : I love using the sweeter Hawaiian buns for this burger recipe. You can easily find them with the other hamburger buns at the store. If you have room, throw them on the grill to toast them and warm them up for serving, OR use the oven and broil the buns for 1-2 minutes to toast and heat them for serving.
