Ingredients

  • 12 pretzel rods
  • 1 bag (12 oz) bright white candy melts
  • 1 cup royal blue candy melts
  • 1 cup red candy melts
  • star shaped sprinkles or patriotic mix sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prep : Line a baking sheet (cookie sheet) with parchment paper, wax paper, or foil.
  • White Candy Melts : Begin by melting the bright white candy melts in a microwave-safe bowl or glass measuring cup according to package directions.
Once melted, pour the melted candy melts into a tall and slender cup or glass jar. Working one pretzel rod at a time, take a pretzel rod and dip 3/4 of the pretzel rod into the melted white candy. Allow the excess to drip off and place the pretzel rod on the parchment-line baking sheet.
Repeat the white color with the remaining pretzel rods. Let the rods dry at room temperature until the white melted candy is set. About 15 minutes.

  • Blue Candy Melts & Sprinkles : Melt the blue candy melts according to package directions. Pour the melted blue candy into a tall and slender cup or glass jar.
Dip the top 1/3 of the white candy-coated pretzel rod into the melted blue candy. Allow the excess to drip off. Place the rod onto the parchment paper and immediately press a few star shaped sprinkles (or patriotic sprinkles) into the blue candy. Repeat with the remaining rods and allow them to dry completely. About 15 minutes.
1 cup royal blue candy melts, star shaped sprinkles or patriotic mix sprinkles
  • Red Candy Melts : Melt the red candy melts according to the package directions. Pour the melted red candy into a Ziploc sandwich size bag, or a piping bag with a small tip, and drizzle red lines over the white area (not covered in blue) of the pretzel rod.
    1 cup red candy melts
  • Allow the pretzel rods to finish drying completely, at room temperature, before serving.

Notes

  • Tall Slender Cup : Use a tall and slender cup for dipping the pretzel rods into. You want it slender so that the melted candy melts can fill it enough in order for the pretzel rod to be dipped into it. Measure a pretzel rod up against the jar or cup to make sure it will be tall enough in order to dip 3/4 of the pretzel rod into.
  • Candy Melts : These are labeled as 'candy melts' and I buy the Wilton brand. You will find them in the cake decorating aisle at Walmart or at any craft store in the cake decorating aisle.
  • Sprinkles : If you can't find the star shaped sprinkles then use any patriotic themed sprinkles you can find. There are always red, white, and blue sprinkle varieties at the store. Or omit the sprinkles and/or star shaped sprinkles entirely and just go with the red, white, and blue.
