Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 packet (1 oz) Lipton Onion Soup Mix
  • 1 large egg beaten
  • 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs
  • 1/4 cup whole milk
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper

Sweet ketchup Glaze

  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon light brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon yellow mustard OR dijon mustard

Instructions

  • Prep : Preheat the oven to 350℉. Spray a 9x5 loaf pan with cooking spray. Or you can line a baking sheet with parchment paper or tin foil (spray the foil). Set aside.
  • Make the meatloaf mixture by adding the crumbled ground beef, Lipton Onion Soup Mix contents, beaten egg, breadcrumbs, milk, ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and pepper in a large bowl.
    * Use your clean hands, or a spoon, to gently mix the ingredients together until combined. Use a gentle hand to mix it and fold it so all the ingredients can combine, making sure to overmix or mix too hard.
1 pound ground beef, 1 packet (1 oz) Lipton Onion Soup Mix, 1 large egg, 1/2 cup plain breadcrumbs, 1/4 cup whole milk, 1/4 cup ketchup, 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Press the meatloaf into the prepared loaf pan OR shape the meatloaf into an oval loaf shape on the baking sheet.
  • Make the sweet ketchup topping by mixing the ketchup, brown sugar, and mustard in a small bowl. Spread the glaze evenly over top the meatloaf.
1/4 cup ketchup, 1 tablespoon light brown sugar, 1 teaspoon yellow mustard OR dijon mustard
  • Bake for 1 hour or until the internal temperature of the meatloaf reaches 165℉.
  • Remove from the oven and let the meatloaf rest for 5-8 minutes before slicing and serving it.

Notes

  • Use Foil : Loosely lay a piece of aluminum foil over top the meatloaf for the final 15 minutes or so if the top is getting too dark towards the end of the bake time. You might want to spray the side of the foil that touches the meatloaf with cooking spray, to ensure that the sweet ketchup glaze does not stick to it.
  • Loaf Shape : You can either use a large loaf pan (9"x5") for this classic recipe or shape the meatloaf into an oval loaf shape on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper (preferred) or foil (spray the foil first with cooking spray). Or purchase a meatloaf pan and use that - a meatloaf pan has a pull-out loaf pan so the excess grease drains into the bottom pan while baking. I personally don't love using meatloaf pans because I think you lose a lot of the flavor while baking. But it is an option if wanted.
