Cut slices of meatloaf with a ketchup glaze.

Simple Ingredients For This Easy Meatloaf Recipe

  1. Ground Beef : The higher fat content of 80/20 or 85/15 ground beef can help prevent the meatloaf from drying out. However, if you prefer a leaner meatloaf then use 93/7 or 90/10 lean ground beef instead. The recipe has been tested using the higher fat content.
  2. Envelope of Lipton Onion Soup Mix : One envelope is all you need for this tasty meatloaf.
  3. Bread Crumbs : Plain bread crumbs are best to use.
  4. Whole Milk : For the best results use a higher fat milk like whole milk or half and half. The lower fat milk is thinner which wold mean you need to add an additional tablespoon of bread crumbs if using.
  5. Large Egg
  6. Ketchup
  7. Worcestershire Sauce
  8. Garlic Powder
  9. Black Pepper
  10. Glaze Ingredients : Ketchup, dijon mustard, and brown sugar creates the delicious sweet glaze for the top of the meatloaf.

This Lipton meatloaf recipe should be stored in the refrigerator, in an airtight container, for up to 3 days. To re-heat the meatloaf you can microwave it for 2-3 minutes on a microwave-safe plate, or reheat it in the oven at 350 degrees F for 15 minutes or until heated through.

This traditional meatloaf recipe also freezes well. To freeze meatloaf, let the meatloaf cool completely, then wrap it in plastic wrap and then again in tin foil. Tips For Making Easy Lipton Onion Soup Meatloaf Recipe

  • Don’t Over Mix The Meatloaf Mixture : Be careful to not over mix the ingredients when combining them in the mixing bowl. Over mixing can result in a dense and tough meatloaf. Just mix it gently with a spoon, or clean hands, just until everything is well combined.
  • Cooking Tip : Check on the meatloaf after 40 minutes of baking. If you see the glaze topping looking very dark or burning, simply lay a piece of tin foil over the top to make a tent and continue cooking the meatloaf until it’s done.
  • Let It Rest : Allow the meatloaf to rest for at least 5-10 minutes before slicing and serving. This helps the flavors blend and makes it easier to slice. Just like with any meat, it’s best to let it rest after cooking it.
  • Check Temperature Before Serving : It’s so important to make sure the internal temperature of the middle of the meatloaf is at 165 degrees F. If it’s not, put it back into the oven until it reaches the safe temperature for serving. Stick a meat thermometer into the center of the meatloaf.
  • Use Foil : Loosely lay a piece of aluminum foil over top the meatloaf for the final 15 minutes or so if the top is getting too dark towards the end of the bake time. You might want to spray the side of the foil that touches the meatloaf with cooking spray, to ensure that the sweet ketchup glaze does not stick to it.
  • Loaf Shape : You can either use a large loaf pan (9″x5″) for this classic recipe or shape the meatloaf into an oval loaf shape on a baking sheet that has been lined with parchment paper (preferred) or foil. Or purchase a meatloaf pan and use that – a meatloaf pan has a pull-out loaf pan so the excess grease drains into the bottom pan while baking. I personally don’t love using meatloaf pans because I think you lose a lot of the flavor while baking. But it is an option if wanted.
  • Use Ground Turkey: For a leaner, low-fat meatloaf try using ground turkey instead of ground beef.
  • Make It Healthier : Use lean ground beef (or ground turkey), use quick oats instead of plain breadcrumbs, and use sugar-free ketchup or the ‘simply’ ketchup.

  1. Welcome to the club! My grandmothers made this exact recipe, passed it down to daughters and granddaughters! To make it even simpler! I do it in a crockpot along with baked potatoes inside. One meal, one pot! You right! It is the best recipe!

So sweet to hear it’s like your family recipe! The idea of the baked potatoes is great.

      Thank you!

  2. Can you use crushed saltiness or Ritz crackers instead of the breadcrumbs?

    1. Together as Family says:

I’ve never thought to do that in place of the breadcrumbs but I’m thinking it would work since they’re similar textures. If you try it, let me know how it turns out!

  3. Pam williams says:

can u use a puree green pepper instead of milk in your meat loaf recipe

    1. Together as Family says:

I’ve never tried it but I would suggest sticking with the milk if you can. The milk adds creaminess and moisture that I worry a purée wouldn’t be able to make up for. If you try the purée though let me know how it turns out!

  4. I love this recipe. I’m anxious to try it.
