White Bean Turkey Chili
Turkey chili in a flavorful beef broth base, loaded with white beans, and warm seasonings. Serve this white bean turkey chili with sour cream, shredded cheese, and corn chips.
- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 1/2 teaspoons ground oregano
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 cups beef broth
- 1 can (28 oz) petite diced tomatoes (do not drain)
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 3 cans (15 oz each) white cannelini beans (drained & rinsed)
- 1 tablespoon unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 teaspoons chili powder
In a large soup pot cook & crumble ground turkey, onion, cumin, oregano, and salt over medium-high heat until turkey is no longer pink. Drain if necessary.
Add the remaining ingredients and bring to a boil. Once boiling reduce heat to low and let simmer for 30-45 minutes.
Serve with sour cream, shredded cheese, and Fritos corn chips.
Sometimes the ground turkey is sold in 1.25 lb packages and that's fine. Use all of that if that's all your store has.
You can use any onion you want. I normally use a white onion or yellow onion. You could also use a sweet onion if wanted.
Just trust me on the cocoa powder. It gives the chili a rich, dark color and flavor. It really is that finishing touch on this chili.
