Texas Trash Pie

Texas Trash Pie - don't let the name trick you, this pie is anything but 'trash'! This pie is so simple to make in one bowl and then everything gets dumped into a deep dish frozen pie crust, and baked until it's golden brown. Sweet & salty perfection and tastes just like a candy bar in pie form.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup chopped pecans
  • 1 cup caramel bits
  • 1 cup shredded coconut
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (see notes)
  • 1 cup crushed pretzels
  • 1 cup graham cracker crumbs
  • 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk
  • 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter melted
  • 1 frozen deep-dish pie crust (make sure it's deep-dish, not regular)

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350℉.
  • In a large bowl, stir together the chopped pecans, caramel bits, shredded coconut, chocolate chips, crushed pretzels, graham cracker crumbs, sweetened condensed milk, and melted butter until well combined.
1 cup chopped pecans, 1 cup caramel bits, 1 cup shredded coconut, 1 cup chocolate chips, 1 cup crushed pretzels, 1 cup graham cracker crumbs, 1 can (14 oz) sweetened condensed milk, 1/2 cup (1 stick) salted butter
  • Pour the mixture into the deep dish pie crust and press it into an even layer and smooth out the top as best you can.
    1 frozen deep-dish pie crust
  • Bake for 35-40 minutes or until golden brown and the filling is set.
*If the pie is getting browned, loosely lay a piece of aluminum foil over top the pie and continue baking.
  • Remove the pie from the oven and allow it to cool completely (about 1 hour), on a wire cooling rack, before serving.
Or you can serve the pie slightly warm for that melty, gooey texture if you prefer. If serving slightly warm, I would still let the pie cool for some time before trying to slice it, otherwise the pie may fall apart if cut too early (about 20-25 minutes or so of cooling time).

Notes

This is a rich and decadent dessert so use whichever chocolate chip you prefer. For more sweetness use milk chocolate chips, for more of a balance use semi-sweet chocolate chips or dark chocolate chips. You can also use a mixture of them; I like to sometimes use half milk chocolate + half semi-sweet or half dark chocolate. It just really depends on your preference.
You can serve Texas trash pie at room temperature, after it has cooled completely, about 1 hour on a wire rack. Or you can serve the pie slightly warm still for a ooey, gooey treat and melty texture. Even if you are serving it slightly warm, I would still recommend letting it cool at room temperature for 20-25 minutes before you try to slice into it.
I prefer this pie when it's slightly warm, and has cooled for about 20 minutes or so at room temperature. But you can decide how you like it best, and serve it that way. Either way, room temperature or warmed, it's a decadent and delicious dessert.
You can eat the pie as is, or for an extra sweet treat try serving it with a scoop of ice cream (vanilla bean is a great choice) or whipped cream for something lighter. The warmth of the pie and the cold of the ice cream or whipped cream, makes for a comforting sensation of ooey-gooey goodness!
