Ingredients

  • 2 pounds sirloin steak cubed
  • 1 cup beef broth
  • 1 packet ranch seasoning mix
  • 2 tablespoons butter sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic (minced, pressed, chopped, or paste)
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  • Add all the ingredients into the crock pot and stir to combine.
  • Cover with the lid and set to LOW for 6-8 hours. You can also cook on HIGH heat for 3-4 hours.
    * For soft, tender steak cook on low for 8 hours. For firmer steak cook to the shorter end of the cook time. I prefer/recommend cooking this low & slow.
  • Sprinkle with chopped fresh parsley (if wanted) and serve.

Recipe Tips -
  • Make a Gravy : The slow cooker produces liquid as the steak cooks, which I use to keep the steak moist, but if you want a thicker gravy then it's easy to do. Stir together 1 tablespoon cornstarch + 2 tablespoons cold water with a fork. Once combined, pour this into the slow cooker and use a whisk to stir it all together. Cover with the lid and allow the crock pot to continue cooking (about an hour) until the gravy is thicker. You may need to do this again if you want it even thicker. You can also just prepare a gravy, either from scratch or from a gravy packet, and use that to drizzle over the steak and whatever else you serve it with.
  • Creamy Mushroom Steak Bites : Add in a can of cream of mushroom soup to make these creamy mushroom steak bites. The canned soup will also help keep the liquid thicker and more like a gravy consistency.
  • Low & Slow : The key to ultra tender meat in the crock pot is low & slow. I recommend cooking this recipe on the LOW heat setting and for the longest time possible (about 8-9 hours). If you want more of a firmer steak then still cook it on LOW heat but for the shorter time listed (about 5-6 hours).
  • Garnish : These steak bites serve really pretty with a chopped parsley garnish on top. I like to put the steak bites into a serving bowl, along with some of the juices to jeep the moist, and then garnish with chopped parsley.
FAQ's -
  • What Is The Best Steak To Use?
    • I recommend using the sirloin steak because it gets super tender and soft especially when cooked in the slow cooker. There are other options if wanted.
    • Other options are chuck roast, flank steak, round roast/steak, or even some beef stew meat that has already been cut up into cubes.
  • How Do I Keep The Steak Bites from Falling Apart in the Crock Pot?
    • Although this is what some people might prefer ( me!) I know there might be some who want more a firmer piece of steak bite instead. If you love the soft, tender, fall-apart texture then cook them on the longer end of the cook time listed. If you want the steak to retain some firmness and structure, then be sure and cook it on the lower end of the cook time.
    • If you cook the steak for the entire time listed in the recipe, it will be soft and fall-part tender. So adjust the cook time depending on your preference.
  • How To Store Leftovers
    • Leftovers can be stored, in an airtight container, in the fridge for 4-5 days.
    • You can also freeze any leftovers as well. Store them in a freezer-safe bag or container for up to 3 months. Let them thaw in the fridge overnight.
  • Variation Ideas
    • Seasonings : Feel free to add or adjust the seasoning listed. Italian seasoning is another good option, or try adding some garlic powder in addition to the fresh garlic.
    • Spicy : The steak bites as is are not spicy at all. If you want some heat try adding cayenne red pepper instead of black pepper (or do half of each), you can also add a can of jalapeños into the crock pot long with the steak bites, or garnish the steak with red pepper flakes. There are lots of ways to make this dish spicy if wanted.
    • Minimal Prep Work : Use already chopped beef stew meat to avoid the prep work of cutting the sirloin steak into cubes.
    • Butter : Try using some garlic butter! They do sell container of garlic butter and other flavored butters, so if you want to switch it up, those would be great options.
