Viral TikTok Cinnamon Rolls (Heavy Cream Cinnamon Rolls)
If you’re looking for the best cinnamon rolls that are also so easy to make, then you’ve found the perfect recipe. These gooey cinnamon rolls are soaked in heavy cream, drizzled with a buttery brown sugar & cinnamon sauce, and then baked to golden brown perfection in the oven. Most recipes call for canned cinnamon rolls, but I am not a fan of how those taste, so I knew I could improve the original recipe by using frozen cinnamon rolls instead.
Think of these as ‘doctored up frozen cinnamon rolls’ – with a few extra ingredients and a simple hack, you can transform frozen cinnamon rolls into next level gourmet-fresh-from-the-bakery cinnamon buns.
The ‘secret ingredient’ to delicious cinnamon rolls is soaking them in heavy cream! Trust me, this might be a viral hack on TikTok (called the heavy cream hack), but it is worth the hype. And the best part is that there is no yeast involved! Simply use frozen cinnamon rolls and no one will ever be able to tell that they’re not homemade cinnamon rolls. Promise!
I love using the overnight refrigerator method when I make this recipe. That way, the next morning I can just pop them in the oven and have amazing cinnamon rolls for breakfast.
Simple Ingredients Needed (Full Recipe Card)
- Thaw, Rise, and Bake Rhodes Cinnamon Rolls : This is the red bag of cinnamon rolls that comes with 12 in it. Make sure you are getting the ones that need to thaw and rise before baking. Do not get the anytime cinnamon rolls because they will not work.
- Heavy Whipping Cream : No substitutes!
- Salted Butter
- Light Brown Sugar
- Ground Cinnamon
- Vanilla Extract
- Cream Cheese Frosting Packets : These come inside the cinnamon roll bag. Place them in the fridge until you’re ready to frost the cinnamon rolls. If wanted, you could use your favorite recipe for Homemade Cream Cheese Glaze instead.
How To Make The Viral Tik Tok Cinnamon Rolls With Store-Bought Cinnamon Rolls
Spray a 9×13 baking pan with nonstick cooking spray. Arrange all 12 frozen cinnamon rolls into the bottom of the pan in even rows. Cover the pan with plastic wrap (spray the underside of the plastic wrap with cooking spray) or a lid.
Choose your preferred thaw and rise method from the back of the cinnamon rolls bag. The room temperature method will take 3-5 hours while the refrigerator method is for overnight cinnamon rolls that will take 8-16 hours. I prefer doing the overnight method in the fridge.
Once the rolls have doubled in size, preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Pour the heavy whipping cream over top of the cinnamon rolls and allow it to sit and soak for 5 minutes.
In a small bowl, whisk together the melted butter, light brown sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until combined. Pour the cinnamon mixture directly over top of the rolls and use a spatula or spoon to gently spread it out evenly.
Bake for 28-35 minutes or until the rolls are golden brown, puffy, and cooked through.
Once done, remove the pan from the oven and allow the cinnamon buns to cool inside the warm pan for 10 minutes. Frost the cinnamon rolls with the cream cheese frosting packets (from the bag). Serve warm!
How To Store Cinnamon Rolls
These never last long at my house so I have never had to store them in the fridge – but technically, because of the cream cheese icing, the leftover rolls should be stored in a covered pan, or airtight container, inside the fridge for up to 3-4 days.
I just leave the pan of cinnamon rolls out at room temperature for the day, and by day I mean several hours, because they don’t last past that at my house.
To reheat, place a cinnamon roll onto a microwave-safe plate, and microwave for 20-25 seconds until heated through and the frosting is melted.
Tips For Making The Famous TikTok Cinnamon Roll Hack
- Sometimes even when you are following the thaw and rise method on the back of the cinnamon roll bag, the rolls can sometimes not be doubled in sized. I have seen this happen when I do the overnight refrigerator method – if you take the rolls out of the fridge and they’re ready, place the pan out at room temperature for a few hours until they have risen and are doubled in size. DO NOT move forward with the recipe until the rolls have doubled in size. If you have a warm kitchen then it’s probably best to use the room temperature method that will take anywhere from 3-6 hours.
- No substitutes for the heavy whipping cream. This is a heavy cream recipe that gets its fluffy magical texture from that high fat content of the heavy cream.
- I prefer using salted butter but you can use unsalted if that’s what you prefer or if you have dietary restrictions.
- Use a toothpick and insert it into he center cinnamon roll to make sure it does not come out with wet dough on it. This is the best way to accurately tell if the cinnamon rolls are cooked throughly.
- Put the cream cheese frosting packets back into the fridge so that they can thaw while the rolls are rising.
