A Fun Kid-Friendly Easter Dessert with Peeps

I have so many fun Easter recipes to share with you all this year! So if you’re noticing a lot more Easter recipes and brightly pastel colored desserts, you’ll know why 🐰

I don’t think you can ever have too many festive & cute desserts to celebrate the Holidays with.

My kids love this Peeps dessert pizza that starts with refrigerated, ready-to-use sugar cookie dough. A simple & sweet marshmallow cream filling gets spread on the ‘crust’ and then it’s decorated with pastel m&m’s and Peeps marshmallow bunnies.

Ingredients Needed

  • Sugar Cookie Dough – This is the log shaped roll of sugar cookie dough that is found in the refrigerated section by the other cookie doughs.
  • Butter
  • Marshmallow Cream – Sometimes this is also referred to as ‘marshmallow fluff’. Same thing, it’s just marshmallows that have already been melted. It’s a creamy consistency similar to like a sticky Cool Whip.
  • Vanilla Extract
  • Powdered Sugar – A little extra sweeter for the marshmallow cream ‘sauce’ for our cookie pizza.
  • Pink Decorating Icing – You can find these in the baking aisle by the candles and birthday cake decorations. It’s in a small tube.
  • Peeps – Use any variety, any color, or any mix of colors.
  • Easter Mix M&M’s – I like using plain m&m’s but you can use any of them you want. Just make sure that they are the pretty pastel colored mix of m&m’s found by the other Easter candy.

Step-by-Step Instructions For How To Make a Peeps Cookie Pizza

It’s so easy to make a Peeps pizza at home. Learn how to make with these easy-to-follow steps. Be sure and read to the bottom of the post where there is a detailed recipe card with lots of helpful tips, a printable option, and a pin it button so you can save the recipe for later.

  • Prep : Preheat the oven to 325 degrees F. Spray a 12″ round pizza pan with cooking spray.
  • Sugar Cookie Dough Crust : Unwrap the sugar cookie dough log and cut it into 1/2-inch slices. Lay the slices of cookie dough all over the pizza pan. Use your clean fingers to squish the pieces together to form the crust. If it’s too sticky, use a piece of wax paper or parchment paper to press on the cookie dough with.
  • Bake : Cook the crust for 15-18 minutes. Allow it to cool to room temperature for about 30 minutes before frosting it and decorating. Be sure not to over bake the crust. It will continue cooking as it cools. Only the very outer edges should be golden brown, the center of the cookie curst should still be pale.
  • Make Marshmallow Filling : Beat the butter in a mixing bowl until combined and smooth. Add in the marshmallow cream and vanilla extract. Beat on low speed just until combined. Add the powdered sugar and mix on low speed, increase speed as needed, until a thick frosting forms.
  • Decorate the Peeps Pizza : Evenly spread the marshmallow filling over the cooled sugar cookie crust. Drizzle the pink decorating gel over top the filling. You can do it in lines or in a circle patter. Take a toothpick and drag it through the pink drizzle to create a marbling effect. Decorate with the Peeps around the edge and then the m&m’s.
  • Fridge Time : Let the pizza refrigerate for about 30 minutes before slicing and serving. This gives it time to set so it cuts nicer.

Peeps Pizza FAQ’s

  • How to Get Softened Butter

    • The best way is to set the butter out at room temperature, about 30 minutes to 1 hour, before starting the recipe. You want it softened just to room temperature and not warmed at all.
    • If you forget to set it out, like I always do, try placing the butter into the microwave (still in the wrapper) and microwave for 30 seconds, stopping it every 5 seconds to rotate the butter to a different side, and continue doing this until the butter is soft. Not warmed at all, just softened slightly.
  • How To Store Leftover Peeps Pizza

    • Store any leftovers in the fridge, covered with plastic wrap or inside a Tupperware-type container, for up to 3 days.
    • I actually prefer eating this pizza cold straight from the fridge. As the pizza sits out at room temperature it will soften slightly.
  • Variation & Substitution Ideas

    • Cookie Dough Crust : Although I recommend using sugar cookie dough (I’ve never used any other than that) you can use any cookie dough you prefer. Make sure it’s the refrigerated kind that comes in the log shape.
    • Peeps : Use any variety or flavor of peeps that you want! Peeps chicks or bunnies work. Although the bunnies are preferred because they lay flat. You can also use any flavor variety of mix of colors that you want. I like to use the blue and pink Peeps because they look good with the pastel m&m candies.
    • Color Coordinate : Use any icing, any Easter candy, and/or any Easter Peeps you want to design a color scheme.
    • Candy : Use Easter sprinkles, jelly beans, or any other small shaped candy.

Recipe Tips

Here are a few of my helpful tips so that you can have success recreating this recipe in your own kitchen ♥

  • Pizza Pan : I suggest using a round pizza pan that has slight sides on it. If it’s completely flat (like a pizza stone or something) it might spill over while baking. I have linked the one that I use below in the recipe card.
  • Sugar Cookie Dough Tip : Make sure to put the dough out at room temperature about 15 minutes prior to starting the recipe. Don’t skip cutting it into slices. This makes it so much easier to press the dough into an even layer inside the pizza pan.
  • Pizza Cutter : Just like with pizza, it’s best to cut this dessert pizza with a pizza cutter. Make sure to put the Peeps strategically so each slice has a Peep on it.
