Rice Krispie Nests with Mini Cadbury Eggs
Aren’t these easter egg nests just about the cutest thing?! I love making these every single year with my kids. Not only are they simple to make, but kids and adults, love decorating these Rice Krispie nests with coconut ‘grass’ and mini chocolate eggs for the ‘easter eggs’.Â
Ingredients Needed
- Butter – The recipe has been tested using salted butter, which is why no additional salt is called for, but unsalted butter can be used as well. Just be sure to add 1/4 teaspoon salt in with the marshmallows.Â
- Marshmallows – You need 10 ounces of marshmallows. That can be either large marshmallows or mini marshmallows.Â
- Vanilla Extract
- Rice Krispies Cereal
- Sweetened Shredded Coconut
- Green Gel Food Coloring – I prefer using gel food coloring because it colors better and you don’t need as much compared to the liquid food coloring.Â
- Mini Cadbury Eggs – You can use any mini egg shaped candy you want. Try jelly beans, Hershey’s chocolate covered eggs, or even the speckled egg m&m’s.Â

Variation & Substitution Ideas for Rice Krispie Nests Recipe
There are several ways to switch up this recipe! Here are some suggestions and ideas.Â
- Mini Egg Candy : Use any egg shaped candy that you want. Jelly beans, speckled egg m&m’s, Hershey’s chocolate covered pastel eggs, or mini robins eggs can all be used in place of the mini cadbury eggs. Or try using a mixture of several different varieties of egg candy.Â
- Rice Krispies Cereal : Make chocolate easter egg nests by using cocoa pebbles instead of Rice Krispies cereal. You can even use half fruit pebbles cereal + half Rice Krispies cereal for a twist.Â
- Green Coconut : If you don’t like coconut, or just prefer to not use food dye, you can leave the coconut as is (without dying it) or try using some edible grass instead. Edible grass can be found alongside the other Easter candy in the Easter aisle at any store.Â
Recipe Tips
Here are a few of my helpful tips so that you can have success recreating this recipe in your own kitchen ♥
- Cooking Spray Tip : When working with gooey marshmallows in Rice Krispies recipes, it’s always a good idea to spray the kitchen tools you’re using with cooking spray. For this recipe, spray the 1/4 measuring cup, the 1 tablespoon measuring spoon, along with the wooden spoon you use to stir the Krispies together, with cooking spray to prevent it from sticking badly.Â
- Fresh Ingredients : It’s important to use fresh rice krispies cereal along with fresh marshmallows. Although it’s tempting to use up the half eaten/opened box of Rice Krispies in your pantry, it’s always a good idea to start with fresh & new cereal when making this recipe. Same thing with marshmallows, after awhile marshmallows can stick together and become not as fluffy and soft, so make sure you are using fresh marshmallows and not some that have been hidden in your pantry for a year.
- Butter : Use salted butter or unsalted butter. The recipe has been tested using salted butter, which is why no additional salt is called for, if using unsalted butter then be sure to add 1/4 teaspoon salt in with the marshmallows.Â
- Heat Low & Slow : Do not turn the heat up to try to speed up the cook time when melting the butter and marshmallows. Low and slow is the name of the game when making Rice Krispie Treats. You don’t want the mixture to burn at all, which is why it’s important to keep the heat low, and to stir it frequently.Â
