These root beer bbq chicken sandwiches will probably be one of the easiest recipes you’ll ever make! I’ve been wanting to try this out but was always so skeptical that root beer + store bought BBQ sauce would give any flavor to the chicken. I was SO wrong!

Thanks to the hours of cook time in the slow cooker the meat gets super tender and the BBQ sauce and root beer provide so much flavor. I seriously can’t stop thinking about this chicken. So easy. So simple. Perfect for a busy weeknight when you’re busy but still want to put dinner on the table.

All you need is some chicken breasts, bottle of root beer, and some of your favorite BBQ sauce. I love Sweet Baby Ray’s but you can use any kind you want. The chicken goes in the slow cooker, sprinkle a few spices over it, and then mix up the BBQ sauce and root beer and let it all cook together.Β

This cooks all day in the slow cooker so the meat is super tender and it’s a no fuss dinner. Serve with some buns or rolls and dinner is ready!

There will be lots of liquid but that’s a good thing! It keeps the chicken so moist and flavorful. Use tongs or a slotted spoon to serve the chicken to drain some of the juice.

This recipe makes a lot so I always love to add some liquid to the leftovers and keep it in the fridge. I have a recipe coming tomorrow that is the perfect way to use up some leftovers.Β

This is too easy not to try. If you’re not a fan of root beer you can switch it out for Coke, Pepsi, Dr. Pepper…. just some type of cola with carbonation.

If you really want to take these sandwiches to the next level you should toast the buns. Spread some butter on both sides of the bun, put on a cookie sheet and broil it on high for 2-3 minutes until toasted. You could even add some cheese too. Yum!

Be sure and make this BBQ chicken soup with some of the leftover chicken. It’s a crazy sounding soup but I promise it’s a delicious surprise!

July 28, 2017 at 8:02 pm In the middle of the recipe?! I just went and looked and I only see the one square ad to the right of the recipe, which is not covering any part of the recipe or anything like that. So sorry to hear the ad bothers you. It costs several hundreds of dollars per month to keep a site up and running providing free recipes to everyone. Hopefully you can still make these chicken sandwiches. They really are so yummy and easy! :)

August 12, 2017 at 2:08 pm This would be so fast in the instant pot! Let me know how it went. I am curious. That's weird about it being that way from mobile, cause when I click through to my site from mobile I don't see that. I'll have to look into it. Enjoy!

August 29, 2017 at 4:08 pm You can use diet cola. I guess it's just personal preference. I have actually mistakenly used diet one time and it was just not as a good. For best taste and results I think regular cola or root beer works best but you can use diet just fine :)
