Giant Chocolate Chip Cookie

You can’t go wrong with a giant chocolate chip cookie! A 12″ chocolate chip cookie that is fun for a sweet treat, to celebrate any occasion, or even a non-cake birthday dessert. My kids request this for their birthday cake instead of cake!

A giant 12" chocolate chip cookie that is perfect for a sweet treat, to celebrate the Holidays, first day of school, or use a birthday cake!

Today my daughter turns 5! HAPPY BIRTHDAY to sweet little Ella. My kids love this giant chocolate chip cookie and actually request it for their “birthday cake”. I love that it is so customizable too! I’ve used to celebrate the first day of school, celebrate birthdays, Holidays, and just for a sweet treat that we all need once in a while. You simply change-up the frosting colors for certain events or mix up the sprinkles for the Holidays.

If you look in the baking aisle of your grocery store you will find those frosting tubes that already come with the star decorating tip. That is what I use for this giant chocolate chip cookie. It’s so easy and makes decorating this cookie really simple. Or, make your own buttercream frosting and use a piping bag and a tip to decorate the cookie.

I like to save some of the chocolate chips to sprinkle on top of the dough after I have pressed it into the tart pan.

I like using the tart pan because it has more of a shape to it and the bottom of the pan just lifts out so it's easy to cut (I use a pizza cutter).

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup ( 1 stick + 1/2 stick butter), softened
  • 1/2 packed light brown sugar
  • 1/2 granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (milk, semi-sweet, dark)

  1. Heat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 12" pizza pan or 11" tart pan with cooking spray (I prefer the tart pan. Look below for a link to the one I use).
  2. Combine the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt together in a medium bowl. Whisk to break up clumps. Set aside.
  3. Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars together until fluffy and light in color, about 2 minutes.
  4. Add the egg and vanilla extract, beat until combined. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl.
  5. Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low until combined. With the mixer running on low speed, add the chocolate chips. Dough will be thick and soft.
  6. Transfer the cookie dough to the pizza pan or tart pan and flatten out with your fingers.
  7. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until puffed and lightly browned on edges.
