You can’t go wrong with a giant chocolate chip cookie! A 12″ giant chocolate chip cookie that is fun for a sweet treat, to celebrate any Holiday or special occasion, or even a birthday. My kids request this for their birthday cake instead of cake!

My kids love this giant chocolate chip cookie and actually request it for their “birthday cake”. I love that it is so customizable too! I’ve used to celebrate the first day of school, celebrate birthdays, Holidays, and just for a sweet treat that we all need once in a while. You simply change-up the frosting colors for certain events or mix up the sprinkles for the Holidays.
I will even cheat sometime and make this giant chocolate chip cookie when my kids request chocolate chip cookies. It’s much easier to make this than rolling 3 dozen cookie balls and baking 4 different batches.
Simple mix up the dough and then press into a tart pan. I would highly recommend buying a tart pan if you don’t have one. It is worth it to have it, just for this recipe! Promise 🙂
It’s a pan with the pretty crinkle edges and then the bottom comes out so it makes it really easy to serve and cut. I have found that it’s easiest to use a pizza cutter to cut this giant cookie into wedges.
This giant cookie is so soft, thick, and chewy. I actually might like this more than a classic chocolate chip cookie! The secret ingredient is the 2 teaspoons of cornstarch. It makes it bake up so soft and fluffy, but it still has that thick chocolate chip cookie texture and buttery taste that we all love.
Do all those pictures make you want to run to the kitchen and make this?! I could not decide on only a few so I gave all the pictures to you. This is seriously so yummy, so easy to make, and you can make it for any occasion.
If my kids want it for their birthday I will either make my own frosting and use a piping bag and a tip, or I will go the easy route and buy the frosting tubes in the baking aisle of the grocery store. They come with a tip so all you do is open it up and squeeze it on. I will usually decorate the edges (like in the pictures above) and then write the number age they’re turning in the middle. Sprinkle it all with colorful sprinkles and you’re done. This cookie is amazing even with no frosting. I actually prefer no frosting because I am not a frosting lover. I wipe it off cake, cupcakes, and everything else.
I am also thinking this would be excellent for Holidays too. Use red and green frosting and sprinkles for Christmas. Maybe add in some Christmas M&M’s. Use red and pink frosting, sprinkles, and M&M’s for Valentine’s Day. So many options and so many ways to change it up.

- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 teaspoons cornstarch
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup ( 1 stick + 1/2 stick butter), softened
- 1/2 packed light brown sugar
- 1/2 granulated sugar
- 1 large egg
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 1 cup milk chocolate chips
- Heat oven to 350 degrees and spray a 11" tart pan with cooking spray or use the butter wrapper to grease it.
- Combine the flour, cornstarch, baking soda, and salt together in a medium bowl. Whisk to break up clumps. Set aside.
- Using a hand mixer or a stand mixer fitted with a paddle attachment, cream the butter and sugars together until fluffy and light in color, about 2 minutes.
- Add the egg and vanilla extract, beat until combined. Scrape down the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed.
- Add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients and mix on low until combined. With the mixer running on low speed, add the chocolate chips. Dough will be thick and soft.
- Transfer the cookie dough to the tart pan and flatten out with your fingers.
- Bake for 20-23 minutes or until puffed in the middle and lightly browned on edges.
- Let cool completely before frosting. The cookie will cook slightly more while cooling.
You can find a tart pan at most retailers or even on Amazon. It's about $15 and it's so worth the cost. If you don't have a tart pan you could also use a similar size pizza pan. Although, I have never done it this way so I am not sure if it would spread or not and loose it's shape.
