This pie. There really are no words for it. It is one of those things that you make and ask yourself “did I really just make this pie because it is so dang good!” I think it’s even more surprising because this pie can be made in just minutes. Minutes people!

Sometimes I like spending hours in the kitchen making everything from scratch and making gourmet things. But then other times ( most of the time!) I like quick, easy, simple, and crazy delicious recipes that I know I can count on. This black forest cheesecake pie is one of those.

Black forest is traditionally a chocolate and cherry combination. And trust me when I say that this pie is loaded with chocolate and cherry flavor. You use a pre-made chocolate crust. You can use either a chocolate graham cracker crust or you can use an Oreo crust. I love the Oreo crust because it’s Oreo…. what’s not to love?!

The cream filling is simply cream cheese, sugar, sour cream (I know, weird, just trust me ๐Ÿ™‚ ), vanilla extract, and cool whip. Pour half of that into the crust and then add cocoa powder and additional sweetener in with the remaining. Spread that on top of the vanilla cream. Put it in the fridge overnight, or for several hours, so it can set. Top each slice with a spoonful of cherry pie filling.

You end up with perfect layers of chocolate crust, vanilla cheesecake, and then chocolate cheesecake. Topped with some cherries!

Ingredients

  • 1 ready-to-use chocolate crumb crust (Oreo or chocolate graham cracker)
  • 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
  • 1/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1 carton (8 oz) Cool Whip, thawed
  • 1/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoon powdered sugar
  • 1 can (21 oz) cherry pie filling

Instructions

  • In a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese and sugar until smooth and combined.
  • Add in sour cream and vanilla extract. Beat together until combined.
  • Fold in Cool Whip with a spatula.
  • Spread half of the mixture into the pie crust.
  • Add cocoa powder and powdered sugar to the remaining cream filling and beat together until combined.
  • Spread evenly over the cream cheese layer.
  • Cover and let refrigerate for at least 6 hours or overnight works really good too.
  • Cut into slices and serve each slice with some cherry pie filling.

Notes

You want to make sure your cream cheese is really soft so you avoid lumps. I like to put mine in a bowl and microwave it for about 30-45 seconds to make sure it's nice and soft.

June 5, 2017 at 7:26 pm Hi Lisa. It probably could. Milk usually separates when you freeze it so not sure if the texture would hold up once frozen. You could always try it but I would suggest not freezing it.

June 24, 2017 at 8:15 pm There really is no substitute for sugar. You could try one of those sugar blends. Not sure of the name but apparently it is a different kind of sugar (?). I've seen them in the baking aisle by the sugars. If you can have one of those that would be a good substitute or just don't add it..... but that would probably not taste very good :)

August 22, 2017 at 12:51 pm I'm diabetic and use splenda all the time in no bake cheesecake pies. Just use splenda for baking,in the bag,and measure it like you would sugar. It tastes great with splenda. My family and I love it!

June 26, 2017 at 5:58 pm Can homemade whipped cream be used instead of cool whip?

June 26, 2017 at 10:28 pm Sure! There is about 2 cups inside the Cool Whip tub, so you would need 1 cup heavy whipping cream + a bit of sweetener (optional). Whip that up until thick and then just add it in (whipping cream doubles once whipped which why you only need the 1 cup). I love homemade whipped cream so I am sure it would be amazing in this pie.

August 12, 2017 at 5:57 pm The only thing I would use in place of the sour cream is plain yogurt. I have never tried it so I can't say how the final taste would be. But, it's certainly worth trying if you want to :)

October 9, 2017 at 10:02 am Would it be ok to add the cherry pie filling after it sets. I am taking to a church gathering.

October 9, 2017 at 11:09 am You could. I've only ever served the pie filling on the side, then when people get a slice they too it themselves. I'm worried that if you let the pie filling sit on top of the pie that it might bleed the red color into the pie??? But again, I've never done it so I'm not sure. As long as you add the filling after it's set in the fridge for a few hours it would probably be ok. Hope that helps. Enjoy!

February 4, 2018 at 7:26 pm I just use the regular size premade store-bought crust from the store. So no, I don't believe it's deep dish. Just the standard graham crusts from the store. Hope you enjoy this, it's one of my favorites!
