Easy Dessert Recipe For The Fourth of July

I love all the festive and patriotic red, white, and blue recipes for the Fourth of July! Kids will love making this brownie pizza and decorating it with patriotic M&M’s and sprinkles.

Simple to make with a store-bought brownie mix and a container of fluffy whipped white frosting. Of course, you could go all out and make some homemade brownies as the base along with a vanilla buttercream for the “pizza sauce” frosting. But I choose to keep it simple because I’d rather be celebrating out at the pool with my family and eating yummy food.

Simple Ingredients Needed

  1. Boxed Brownie Mix : Use your favorite store-bought brownie mix! Anything from milk chocolate, dark chocolate, triple chocolate, or chocolate fudge will work. You will need to prepare the brownie mix according to the package directions on the back of the box – usually it calls for oil, eggs, and water.
  2. Whipped White Frosting : This is another easy store-bought item found near the cake mixes. It specifically says ‘whipped’ on the container and it’s a lighter fluffier version of canned frosting.
  3. Red, White, & Blue M&M’s
  4. Patriotic Sprinkles : I love using 2-3 different kinds of patriotic sprinkles for visual appeal and it looks better too.

How To Make Patriotic Red, White, and Blue Brownie Pizza

Preheat the oven according to the package directions on the back of the brownie mix. Prepare a 12-inch or 14-inch round pizza (a rimmed one with higher sides on it) pan by lightly spraying with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.

Prepare the brownie mix according to package directions (usually eggs, oil, and water).

Pour the batter into the prepared round pizza pan and spread it out evenly. Bake according to the package directions, which will be about 20-23 minutes. Use a toothpick to check the doneness in the center of the brownie – if it comes out with wet batter then it needs to cook longer.

Remove the brownie pizza from the oven and allow it to cool completely at room temperature.

Once the brownie has cooled, spread the fluffy white frosting evenly over the top of the brownie pizza. Use the M&M’s to create ‘fireworks’ design on top of the frosting. Add the sprinkles over top.

Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut the brownie pizza into slices. Enjoy!

Make It Ahead of Time

You can bake the brownie pizza a day ahead and store it covered at room temperature. To keep everything looking fresh, I recommend decorating and frosting the pizza the day you plan to serve it.

How To Store Leftovers

Leftover brownie pizza can be stored in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days.

Decorating Tips & Ideas

Feel free to use any red, white, and blue candies to decorate the top of the pizza with. You can make fireworks designs with the M&M’s, or just sprinkle them all over the pizza, or get creative and do something else. Anything works!

For visual appeal I like to use 2-3 different varieties of patriotic sprinkles because I think it looks the best.

I have seen lots of red, white and blue colored treats; like sour patch kids, candies, etc. Get creative and use whatever you want to decorate the pizza with.

Don’t Have A Round Pizza Pan?

A round rimmed pizza pan will give you that authentic pizza look, but a rectangular pan (9×13 baking pan) works well for a flag design.

If you don’t have a rimmed round pizza pan then use a 9×13 rectangle pan and make a flag design with the M&M’s instead or keep the fireworks design.

Celebrate the Fourth of July with this easy dessert pizza that starts with a boxed brownie mix! 4th of July Brownie Pizza has a rich chocolatey pizza base, topped with store-bought frosting, and decorated in red, white, & blue M&M's and sprinkles.

Ingredients

  • 1 box (18.3 oz) brownie mix (plus ingredients called for)
  • 1 container (12 oz) store-bought whipped white frosting
  • red, white, & blue M&M's
  • patriotic sprinkles

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven according to the package directions on the back of the brownie mix. Prepare a rimmed 14-inch round pizza pan by lightly spraying with nonstick cooking spray. Set aside.
  • Prepare the brownie mix according to package directions (usually eggs, oil, and water).
1 box (18.3 oz) brownie mix
  • Pour the batter into the prepared round pizza pan and spread it out evenly.
  • Bake according to the package directions, which will be about 20-23 minutes. Use a toothpick to check the doneness in the center of the brownie – if it comes out with wet batter then it needs to cook longer.
  • Remove the brownie pizza from the oven and allow it to cool completely at room temperature.
  • Once the brownie has cooled, spread the fluffy white frosting evenly over the top of the brownie pizza. Use the M&M's to create 'fireworks' design on top of the frosting. Add the sprinkles over top.
    * You don't have to use all of the frosting. I usually don't as my family does not love a thick frosting layer.
1 container (12 oz) store-bought whipped white frosting, red, white, & blue M&M's, patriotic sprinkles
  • Use a pizza cutter or knife to cut the brownie pizza into slices. Enjoy!

Notes

Frosting : I use a container of store-bought fluffy whipped white frosting. You can even use some gel food coloring to dye it red or blue if wanted. You can also use cream cheese frosting, chocolate frosting, etc. I never use all of the frosting when frosting the pizza – use as much or as little as your family prefers.
Pizza Pan : Make sure you are using a round pizza pan that has higher rimmed sides on it. It’s important that you don’t use a flat pizza pan or else the brownie batter will just spill over.
