How To Make Hot Honey Chicken Wings With Buffalo Sauce (Printable Recipe Card)
In a large Ziplock bag, add the flour, cornstarch, onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and cayenne pepper.
Pat the chicken wings dry with a paper towel and place them inside the bag and seal the bag securely. Shake the bag until all the wings are coated well and evenly.

Line a rimmed baking sheet with a wire rack (preferred) or parchment paper. Arrange the wings in a single layer on the cooling rack. Place the wings in the fridge for 30 minutes.
Preheat the oven to 400°F.

Remove the wings from the fridge and lightly spray the wings with nonstick cooking spray. Bake the wings for 20 minutes. Flip the wings over and bake for an additional 25-30 minutes or until crispy and cooked to a safe internal temperature of 165 degrees F.
Mix the honey, hot sauce, and melted butter in a large bowl. Toss the crispy baked chicken wings in the sauce until coated well. Serve & enjoy!

How To Store & Reheat Leftover Wings
Leftover hot honey wings should be stored in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 4 to 5 days.
To reheat, place wing(s) in the air fryer at 375°F for 5-8 minutes, or until thoroughly heated. You can also use the oven at 400°F for 10-15 minutes. The air fryer method is preferred as it keeps the wings crispy.
To freeze the wings, it is best to flash-freeze them in a single layer for 2 to 4 hours on a sheet pan. Then move them to a freezer-safe, airtight Ziplock bag and freeze for up to 3 months. The flash-freeze will allow you to freeze them without them clumping together. Like most frozen wings, they can be heated from frozen in a 400°F oven for 25-30 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 165°F.

Substitutions & Ingredient Notes
- All-Purpose Flour : For a gluten-free option, you can use rice flour as a substitute.
- Hot Sauce : Note that hot sauce comes in different levels of heat, so pick the level of heat you prefer. Frank’s Red Hot Sauce is a spicy option, or you can try creamy buffalo sauce from Sweet Baby Ray’s (they also have a mild version). Just pick your preferred hot sauce, cayenne sauce, or buffalo sauce.
- Salted Butter : If you only have unsalted butter on hand, you can add 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt or sea salt to the mix, and it will still work out.

Recipe FAQs
How Do I Know For Sure The Chicken Is Done?
The wing sections are a smaller piece of meat, but to ensure they are properly cooked, use a digital meat thermometer to check that the internal temperature is at 165°F degrees before serving. Be sure to check it at the thickest part of the wing.
Could I Fry The Wings Or Do They Need To Be Baked?
Baking them is the healthier option, but they can be fried if you choose. Use canola oil or peanut oil for a crispier result and fry them at 350°-375°F for about 10-12 minutes. Use a large skillet with high sides or a deep fryer. Drain the grease by putting the fried wings on a layer of paper towels, then toss the wings in the glaze sauce.
Will They Be Crispy When Baked?
Yes, your wings should still be crispy even with baking. The high temperature of the oven helps ensure that they are. Baking them on top of a wire cooling rack is the best way to get oven baked crispy wings, as it allows the air to circulate around the wings better. You’re still going to need to flip them as stated in the cooking instructions to ensure the crispness is all the way around the wing.
How Can I Control The Heat Level Of The Wings?
You can adjust the heat by using less (or more) of the cayenne red pepper in the flour mixture. You can also remove it completely if you prefer the only heat to be in the sauce (this is what I do all the time). Another way to control the spice level is by picking the correct sauce that you prefer. They come in varying degrees so make sure you are using one you like. Sweet Baby Rays brand makes a creamy light Buffalo sauce that is really good on these wings. Frank’s Hot sauce is a super spicy one or you can try using classic buffalo sauce for a medium heat level.
