Bunny Butt Cheeseball Recipe (Easter Dessert Cheeseball)

Normally I think of cheeseballs as a savory appetizer like this Easter Carrot Cheeseball or The Best Cheeseball Recipe – but you’ll be surprised to see all the fun and delicious variations of a sweet dessert cheese ball – a little bit goes a long way so it’s perfect for a family gathering or to celebrate Easter with family and friends.

Sweet cheeseballs still have that cream cheese base and then it’s usually mixed in with sweeter ingredients like cake mix, powdered sugar, sprinkles, and then covered in things like mini chocolate chips, cookie crumbs, mini m&m’s, or coconut flakes – similar to this Monster Cookie Dough Cheeseball and Peanut Butter Cookie Dough Cheeseball.

This bunny butt cheeseball is just the cutest thing I’ve ever seen. Loaded with funfetti sprinkles, sweet cake mix, cream cheese, and then dusted in powdered sugar for that white bunny fur coating. Serve it alongside several dipping options for a delicious way to celebrate Easter.

Ingredients Needed

  1. Cream Cheese : Use full-fat cream cheese for the best rich and thick texture, and the best taste. Cream cheese is the base of this sweet cheese ball!
  2. Butter : I use salted butter because I think it tastes better when making sweet treats, however, unsalted butter can be used just fine if that’s what you prefer baking with.
  3. Vanilla Extract
  4. Powdered Sugar
  5. Funfetti Cake Mix : We are just using the dry cake mix, no need to prepare it!
  6. White Chocolate Chips
  7. Funfetti Pastel Sprinkles : Use pastel colors to go along with the springtime Easter theme of this sweet treat.
  8. Large Marshmallow : This creates the “tail” of the bunny.
  9. Pink M&M’s : You will find pink m&m’s inside the Easter mix of pastel colored m&m candies. These create the “toe pads” of the bunny.
  10. Dippers : Serve the bunny butt cheeseball with an assortment of dipping options such as graham crackers, Nilla wafers, cookies, pretzels, etc.

How To Make A Sweet Cheese Ball For Easter (Bunny Cheeseball)

In a mixing bowl, beat the cream cheese, butter, and vanilla extract with a hand or stand mixer until smooth and creamy.

Gradually add the powdered sugar and funfetti cake mix, and mix until it’s full incorporated.

Stir in the white chocolate chips and funfetti sprinkles.

Shape the mixture into a large ball, reserving some of the mixture for the “bunny feet”. Flatten one side of the ball slightly to form the “bunny butt”. Wrap the bunny butt tightly with plastic wrap.

Shape the reserved mixture into two “bunny feet” and wrap them tightly in plastic wrap. Place the cheeseballs in the fridge, for at least 1 hour, to chill and firm up.

Once chilled, arrange your “bunny butt” and the ‘bunny feet” (as pictured) on a large plate or serving platter. Dust the bunny butt cheeseball with powdered sugar, using a pastry brush if needed, to evenly spread it out.

Decorate the cheeseball by cutting a large marshmallow in half and pressing them onto the center of the flattened area of the bunny butt to create the “tail”.

How To Store Bunny Butt Dessert Cheeseball

  • Refrigerator : Wrap the cheeseball tightly in plastic wrap and store it in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Make-Ahead Instructions : Prepare the cheeseball up to 24 hours in advance. Wait to decorate until just before serving to keep the candy and marshmallow fresh.

Serving Suggestions

This dessert cheeseball shaped like a bunny’s butt is best served with an assortment of dipping options. I like to place the cheeseball onto the center of a large serving platter, and then organize different dipping options around it. Here are some ideas.

  • Pretzels
  • Cookies – Oreos, Chips Ahoy, Funfetti Cookies, Shortbread cookies, etc.
  • Teddy Grahams
  • Graham Crackers
  • Nilla Wafers
  • Apple Slices – Soak the sliced apples in some cold water combined with lemon juice to prevent the apples from turning brown quickly.
  • Strawberries

Recipe Tips

  • Cream Cheese : It’s important to use room temperature softened cream cheese to avoid any lumps in the cheeseball mixture. Softened cream cheese blends in much smoother compared to cold cream cheese which will leave lumps in the batter. Leave the cream cheese out at room temperature for up to 2 hours before making the cheeseball, you can also unwrap the cream cheese and microwave it (on a microwave-safe plate) for just about 12-15 seconds. You don’t want it warmed at all, just softened closer to room temperature.
  • Use Full-Fat Philadelphia Cream Cheese : The name brand ‘Philadelphia’ tastes so much better, like so much better! It is worth the extra cost because it has a richer, creamier, and better taste to it compared to store brands. For the best thick texture and creaminess use full-fat cream cheese only in this dessert cheeseball recipe.
  • Sprinkles : Use any pastel colored or Easter themed sprinkles you want! Or stick to the classic funfetti colors (rainbow colored sprinkles) to match the fufnetti cake mix. Sometimes they also sell a funfetti cake mix for Easter (with Easter pastel funfetti sprinkles in it) and that would go well with some Easter sprinkles.
