Fun Trail Mix for Easter (Bunny Bait)

My kids always love a fun Holiday themed snack mix. They’re so fun to make with all the fun Easter themed candies and treats at the stores this time of year. This bunny bait trail mix is a delicious sweet & crunchy mixture of cereal, kettle corn, crispy chow mein noodles, a sweet powdered sugar chocolate coating, bunny grahams, and pastel candies.

It’s also a great ‘gift’ to hand out to friends, family, and even neighbors. Put some trail mix inside Eater themed clear bags and then tie it with some pastel ribbon. Super easy and super cute!

Ingredients Needed

  • Rice Chex Cereal – Provides lots of crunch for out trail mix!
  • Honey Nut Cheerios – Provides some honey sweetness along with some crunchy texture.
  • Kettle Corn – Sweet & salty perfection.
  • Chow Mein Noodles – I prefer using the thin chow mein noodles but you can also use regular chow mien noodles. These are a fantastic addition because they are pretty bland and offer tons of crunch. They also soak up all that sweet white chocolate too.
  • White Chocolate Chips
  • Powdered Sugar – The melted white chocolate helps the powdered sugar adhere to the snacks.
  • Bunny Graham Crackers
  • Easter Pastel M&M’s
  • Easter Sprinkles – Use any variety of sprinkles you want! There are lots of cute options at the stores during the Holiday.

Bunny Bait Trail Mix FAQ’s

  • How To Store Leftovers

    • Make sure and store this bunny bait in an airtight container to ensure freshness of the mix. It keeps well for up to 5 days at room temperature in an airtight container or Ziploc storage bag.
  • Substitutions

    • Chex Cereal : Use any Chex cereal you prefer. Corn Chex, chocolate Chex, etc.
    • Cheerios : Again, any variety of Cheerios can be used in place of honey nut Cheerios. Frosted cheerios work well, or chocolate cherries, etc.
    • Popcorn : I love the sweet & salty flavors of kettle corn but feel free to substitute with any variety of popcorn you want.
    • Bunny Graham Crackers : These can be trickier to find. I always buy the Annie’s Organic bunny grahams. They come in chocolate ones and then vanilla + chocolate chip ones. It’s a mix that comes in a box. You can also just use graham cracker sticks that have been chopped, or some other cracker/treat product you like. Goldfish grahams or the vanilla cupcake ones would also be a good substitution.
    • Pastel Candy : There are lots of options here. Try using pastel skittles, bunny shaped chocolates, Reese’s pastel peanut butter eggs, jelly beans, etc. Or you can even use a mix of different kinds of pastel Easter candy with the m&m’s.
    • White Chocolate : You can also use vanilla flavored almond bark, white chocolate melts, or white colored candy melts in place of the white chocolate chips.

  • Melting Chocolate : There are several options here; white chocolate chips, vanilla flavored almond bark, white melting wafers (Ghiradelli brand comes in a blue bag), or white colored candy melts. Melt according to the package instructions of whatever you are using.

Make this fun and delicious Bunny Bait Trail Mix for Easter! An assortment of cereal and snack foods are covered in a white chocolate glaze, and then the trail mix is decorated with pastel m&m candies and Easter sprinkles. It's a sweet, salty, and crunchy texture perfection!

Ingredients

  • 3 cups Rice Chex cereal
  • 2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios
  • 2 cups kettle corn
  • 1 cup crispy chow mein noodles
  • 1 bag (11 oz) white chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup bunny graham crackers
  • 1 cup pastel Easter M&M's
  • 1-2 tablespoons Easter or pastel colored sprinkles

Instructions

  • Prepare a large baking sheet (cookie sheet - 12"x18") by lining it with parchment paper or wax paper. Set aside.
  • In a large mixing bowl, add the rice Chex cereal, Honey Nut Cheerios, kettle corn, and chow mein noodles. Stir to combine.
3 cups Rice Chex cereal, 2 cups Honey Nut Cheerios, 2 cups kettle corn, 1 cup crispy chow mein noodles
  • Melt the white chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl for 1 minute. Stir well, and continue heating in 30 second increments, stirring well after each, until it's smooth and melted.
    * Careful not to overheat the white chocolate. It's important to stir it well after each heating, because it will melt and become smooth as you stir it, which means it's done.
1 bag (11 oz) white chocolate chips
  • Pour the melted white chocolate over the snack mix in the mixing bowl. Gently stir everything together until combined well.
Pour it onto the prepared baking sheet and spread it out evenly.
Allow it to cool at room temperature for 30 minutes.
  • Once the mixture is hardened and dry, break it into pieces and place them into a large mixing bowl or serving bowl. Sprinkle the powdered sugar over top and gently mix to combine until it has a nice coating of powdered sugar.
    1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • Add the bunny graham crackers, m&m's, and sprinkles. Gently stir everything together.
*Garnish the top with additional m&m's can sprinkles for decoration.
1 cup bunny graham crackers, 1 cup pastel Easter M&M's, 1-2 tablespoons Easter or pastel colored sprinkles

Notes

Chow Mein Noodles : These are the really crispy noodles that you will find in the Asian section of the grocery store by the soy sauce. I prefer using the really thin ones, but if you can't find them, the original chow mein boodles will work great (like what is in the pictures).
Bunny graham Crackers : I have only ever seen these from the Annie's Organic brand. If you can't find them in the cracker aisle, try using any other small graham cracker or cracker you can find. Mini Nilla Wafers, animal cookies, chopped up graham crackers, vanilla cupcake or graham cracker Goldfish, or just omit them entirely if you can't find a good replacement.
