Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Steak Bites
I love making this easy crockpot recipe for those busy weeknights when we have several activities and sports happening. I can throw 5 ingredients into the crockpot, and come home to a yummy, comforting, and hearty dinner.
It really is only 4 ingredients – beef stew meat, onion, garlic parmesan sauce, and beef broth. Optional garnishes include parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley.
Make sure you are using a bottle of garlic parmesan sauce that you LOVE the flavor of. I use Sweet Baby Ray’s brand or Buffalo Wild Wings brand.
This recipe is similar to my Crockpot Garlic Parmesan Chicken Pasta (Buffalo Wild Wings) which uses chicken and pasta. But both recipes use a bottle of garlic parmesan sauce and the flavor is so yummy with no effort and minimal ingredients.
Simple Ingredients Needed (4 Ingredient Dinner Recipe!)
- Beef Stew Meat : These are pre-cut chunks of more inexpensive and tough cuts of steak, like round steak or chuck steak, that are sold for stewing recipes such as this one. The longer slow cooker time helps to break down the meat, so you end up with tender steak bites.
- Onion : Use a yellow onion, white onion, or sweet onion. Yellow onions and sweet onions will have the most mild flavor.
- Parmesan Garlic Sauce : Many different brands make a bottle of Parmesan garlic sauce. My favorite ones to use, because they have the best flavor, are Buffalo Wild Wings and Sweet Baby Ray’s. This is not the same thing as salad dressing; but rather a thicker, creamier sauce that is more of a marinade or sauce for dunking.
- Beef Broth : Can also use beef stock, beef bone broth, or use beef bouillon + water. I don’t recommend substituting with chicken or vegetable broth, as the flavor won’t be as deep and flavorful.
- Parmesan Cheese & Chopped Fresh Parsley : This is a garnish for serving, you won’t add this into the crockpot. You can use refrigerated pre-shredded parmesan cheese, shelf-stable parmesan cheese, or buy a wedge of parmesan cheese and use freshly grated. I normally don’t top the steak bites with parsley as my kids aren’t fans of the “green stuff”.
How To Make This Steak Recipe With Parmesan Sauce (Printable Recipe Card)
Add the beef stew meat, finely diced onion, parmesan garlic sauce, and beef broth into your crockpot. Stir to combine everything.
Cover with the lid and cook on LOW heat for 7-8 hours. I don’t recommend cooking on high heat because the beef won’t be as tender & soft, but you can if wanted, on HIGH heat for 3-4 hours.
Top the steak bites with parmesan cheese and chopped fresh parsley. Serve warm, from the crockpot, as is, over rice, mashed potatoes, or pasta. Enjoy!
How To Store Leftover Steak Bites
Once completely cooled to room temperature, store leftovers inside an airtight container, for up to 3 days in the refrigerator. I recommend saving the extra broth and sauce as well, so you can have it when reheating.
To reheat, place the steak bites back into the slow cooker, on the stove over low heat, or microwave until heated thoroughly.
Freeze the steak bites, in a freezer safe container or Ziploc bag, for up to 3 months. Allow the frozen steak to thaw overnight, in the fridge, before reheating for serving.
Substitutions & Variations
- Beef Stew Meat : This could be replaced with sirloin for a more tender meat, or a round-eye roast that has been cubed. Depending on the store, you can buy pre-cut sirloin steak meat or purchase a larger piece and cut it into chunks.
- Beef Broth : You could use beef bouillon and hot water, beef stock, or beef bone broth. I don’t recommend using chicken broth or vegetable broth because the flavor won’t be as rich, deep, and intense.
Serving Suggestions
My family’s favorite way to eat these garlic parmesan steak bites is over top some mashed potatoes – the recipe makes a creamy sauce that is perfect for drizzling over the steak and potatoes. We love these Cream Cheese Mashed Potatoes.
Other options for serving include cooked white or brown rice, pasta of choice, inside lettuce cups for a lettuce wrap, or add the steak bites to a salad.
You can also make quesadillas with the steak bites or with the leftovers. This is something my kids love!
Recipe FAQs
Do I Need To Sear The Beef Stew Meat Before Putting It In The Crockpot?
No, you do not have to sear the meat beforehand. If you want to, you can, but it is not necessary. Searing the meat will give it a crust-like texture, but in this recipe I find that it’s not necessary because the meat gets really soft and tender in the slow cooker and it’s amazing.
Can I Make The Sauce Creamier?
To make the sauce creamier, you could add 1/2 cup heavy cream or mix in a block of cream cheese that is well softened (so it doesn’t lump up). I suggest microwaving the cream cheese for 30-40 seconds before adding it to the crockpot at the end of the cook time.
What Is Beef Stew Meat?
Beef stew meat refers to cubes of inexpensive, tougher cuts of beef, such as chuck steak or round steak, that are pre-cut for stewing recipes. The long slow cooking process in a liquid helps to break down the tough connective tissue in these cuts, making the meat tender, juicy, and flavorful. The meat is sold and labeled as ‘beef stew meat’ and it will be in pre-cut chunks.
Can I Use Something Else Besides Beef Stew Meat?
Yes, if you want to use a more tender and lean cut of steak, good options are sirloin steak or a round-eye roast steak that has been cubed.
