Do you remember those super sweet dunkaroo dips? I feel like I always begged my mom to buy them for me when I was a little girl. Although, recently the iconic dunkaroo dip has seemed to make a comeback lately… I saw it in the store recently and thanks to social media, it has since become popular again!

Which is ok with me cause who can resist a creamy, fluffy, sweet & colorful dip?! This funfetti dip is so fun to make and even more fun to eat with all the different dipper options you can serve it with.

With only 5 minutes prep + 5 ingredients this sweet dessert dip is ready to go in no time at all. Let’s learn how to make it with the simple tutorial and all my tips below.

Easy Ingredients For This Perfect Sweet Dip

  1. Funfetti Cake Mix
  2. Vanilla Yogurt
  3. Cool Whip – You only need 1 cup so there will be leftovers inside the carton of Cool Whip.
  4. Rainbow Sprinkles – I recommend using the larger shaped sprinkles, like the round shape or longer stick shaped ones, rather than the small balls of sprinkles as they will bleed into the white dip when mixed.
  5. Vanilla Extract

Transfer the dip to a serving bowl or container and cover it with a lid or plastic wrap. Refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to 1 hour before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and for the dip to thicken and firm up slightly.

Favorite Dippers For Funfetti Cake Dip

Here are some of my favorite things to serve with this sweet treat! There really is no wrong dipper to serve with funfetti dip, so pick your faves and it’s sure to be a crowd pleaser.

  • Animal crackers : Plain animal crackers or the frosted animal crackers both work well.
  • Vanilla Wafers : The mini wafer or regular sized Nilla wafers.
  • Teddy Grahams : Honey teddy grahams or the chocolate chip teddy grahams are both really yummy with this dip.
  • Graham Crackers
  • Pretzels : That salty, sweet, and crunchy combo is one of my favorites!
  • Funfetti Cookies : Make it easy and buy a box of funetti cookies from the store.
  • Vanilla Cupcake Goldfish Crackers
  • Fresh Fruit : Grapes, strawberries, apple slices, and pineapple or cantaloupe chunks are all really good with the sweet dip.
  • Oreo Cookies : Golden Oreos or Oreos are both yummy.
  • Vanilla or Strawberry Wafers
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies : I like to get some mini chocolate chips cookies, like Famous Amos brand or mini Chips Ahoy, for this dip.

Do I Need To Heat Treat The Raw Cake Mix?

This is a very loaded question because I am not a food safety expert and everyone has their own different ideas when it comes to heat treating raw flour and cake mixes. If you want to be on the safe side then yes you should heat-treat the cake mix.

I’ll be honest and say that I am usually too rushed to heat treat it, so I never do, but it’s a fairly simple process if that’s what you choose to do. To each their own! So you decide for yourself what you’re most comfortable with.

  • Spread the dry funfetti cake mix onto a baking sheet ; like a cookie sheet with a rim on it. Bake it at 350 degrees F for 5 minutes. Stir it halfway through. Let the cake mix cool completely before using it in any recipe. This will kill any potential bacteria in the raw flour.

How To Store Leftover Cake Batter Dip

Funfetti Dunkaroo Dip should be stored in the refrigerator to maintain its freshness and safety. Place the dip inside an airtight container with a tight-fitting lid, or cover it with plastic wrap, for 3-4 days. Before serving or eating make sure to give it a quick stir to get it thoroughly mixed again.

Changes & Variations

  • Holidays : For most of the holidays they sell a funfetti cake mix that matches that holiday with the funfetti colors. I’ve seen them for halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day, and Easter. Coordinate the funfetti cake mix and the sprinkles to make this easy recipe for any holiday.
  • Greek Yogurt : Although I don’t recommend using Greek yogurt, because of that sour tang it will add to the dip, it can be used if wanted.
  • Yogurt : I think vanilla yogurt tastes the best. Use either full-fat, reduced-fat, or reduced-sugar if wanted.
  • Sweeter Dip? : Add some powder sugar if you think the dip needs to be sweeter. If using Cool Whip and the vanilla yogurt, I have found that it’s plenty sweet, but if you prefer sweeter then try adding some powdered sugar (about 1/4 cup, less or more to taste).
  • Sprinkles : Use any rainbow colored sprinkles you want. If using the small balls (non-perils) I recommend stirring very very gently as to not make the sprinkles bleed into the white dip. I recommend using regular sprinkles in the longer stick shape or the round shaped ones. Those don’t bleed into the batter when stirred.

Tips For Making Dessert Dips

This is the best no bake dessert dip to make for birthday celebrations, a ‘sprinkles party’, birthday parties, baby shower, special occasions like gatherings or hangouts, or it’s a fun idea for movie night as something to munch on. I do have a few tips to help make this creamy dip a success every time you make it.

  • Prepare It Ahead of Time : Prepare the dip the day before and let it refrigerate until ready to serve. Just give it a quick stir before serving to ensure it’s well-mixed.
  • Garnish : Sprinkle some extra sprinkles over top the dip once you add it into the serving bowl. This makes for a pretty presentation and more sprinkles never hurt anyone!
  • Serving Ideas : I like to serve this colorful and fun recipe on a big serving platter – the bowl of dip in the center inside a serving bowl and then lay the ‘dippers’ all around the bowl and everyone can dip whatever they want.

Notes

Dipper Ideas : Anything would be yummy dipped in this funetti dip. Here are some of my favorites to get you started.

  • Vanilla or Strawberry Wafers
  • Chocolate Chip Cookies : I like to get some mini chocolate chips cookies, like Famous Amos brand or mini Chips Ahoy, for this dip.
Yogurt : I recommend using vanilla yogurt but there are other options, depending on dietary needs, like Greek yogurt (it will make the dip not as sweet and tangier) or even room temperature cream cheese. If using one of these options, you may need to add some powdered sugar to help sweeten the dip up if needed.
Stir Gently : It’s important to gently stir in the Cool Whip and sprinkles in order to keep the dip fluffy and light, and in order for the sprinkles to not bleed color into the white dip.
