Easy Strawberry Fluff Recipe (Strawberry Jello Fluff Salad)
Strawberry fluff is a potluck favorite that makes for a great side dish or an easy dessert salad at family gatherings, potlucks, or even a girl themed baby shower! Bursting with strawberry flavor thanks to the juicy strawberries and strawberry gelatin powder.
Fluff salad recipes are a mix of instant pudding, a jello mixture, fresh fruit, marshmallows, and cool whip to create a creamy and soft texture, with pieces of fresh strawberry and pineapple inside. It’s a classic no bake recipe that makes for a great side dish or even a delicious dessert as a dessert salad.
Strawbery fluff has a pretty pale pink color and a sweet and tart fruity flavor. Something the whole family can enjoy and it’s always a dish that I bring home empty if I take it somewhere – the soft and fluffy texture, along with the fruity taste, just can’t be beat.
Simple Ingredients Needed
- Instant Vanilla Pudding Mix : Use a box of instant pudding mix and not the cook n’ serve variety (it won’t work in this recipe).
- Strawberry Jello Powder : You only need 1/4 cup of the strawberry jell-o powder (from a small box) so you won’t use the entire box of it. Just measure out 1/4 cup when making the strawberry jello salad.
- Crushed Pineapple : Do not drain the juice from the can, simply dump the entire contents from the can inside the mixing bowl.
- Fresh Strawberries : This strawberry fluff salad recipe needs 2 cups of diced juicy strawberries. Dice or chop the strawberries first and then measure out the 2 cups needed.
- Mini Marshmallows
- Cool Whip : This is what gives the iconic fluffy texture of a fluff salad recipe – you can also substitute homemade whipped cream instead of the store-bought Cool Whip if you prefer.
How To Make Strawberry Fluff Salad (Printable Recipe Card)
In a large bowl, add the instant vanilla pudding mix, strawberry jello mix, crushed pineapple (do not drain), and diced fresh strawberries. Gently stir everything together until the pudding and jello mixes have dissolved into the pineapple juices.
Stir in the Cool Whip and stir until combined.
Stir in the mini marshmallows and stir until combined.
Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap, and refrigerate for at least 2-4 hours or longer (overnight) if you prefer softer marshmallows.
How To Store Leftovers
Store the leftover salad inside an airtight container, or cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap, for up to 3 days. The marshmallows will start to soften and get to mushy after 3 days. You may also need to stir the fluff before serving or eating, as the pineapple juice tends to separate from the fluff while in the fridge.
Can I Make Any Substitutions?
- Mini Marshmallows : Try using the colored, fruity mini marshmallows insane of the classic marshmallows. It will add more sweetness, color, and a fruitier flavor to the fluff.
- Homemade Whipped Cream : Instead of using a tub of store-bought Cool Whip you can make your own. Add 1.5 cups heavy whipping cream + 1/3 cup powdered sugar into a mixing bowl. Use an electric mixer to beat until stiff peaks form, about 4-5 minutes. Start at low speed to avoid splashing and increase as needed.
- Jello Powder & Fruit : Switch up this easy recipe by using a variety of different flavors of jello mix + fresh fruit! Try raspberry jello + fresh raspberries (no need to chop them first), or orange jello + mandarin oranges, or mix and match berries with different gelatin powders.
Strawberry Fluff Dessert/Side Dish Tips
- I don’t recommend using frozen strawberries because once they thaw they will give off a lot of liquid and make the fluff salad an unpleasant color. Fresh strawberries are easily found so I only recommend using fresh ripe strawberries when making this fluff salad.
- Be sure and give the salad a quick stir before serving it from the fridge as the pineapple juice may separate from the other ingredients while refrigerating.
- This jello salad recipe is best served chilled from the fridge, and it’s best served after it has had time to refrigerate (at least 2-4 hours). If you prefer a softer texture and fluffier marshmallows, then try refrigerating it up to overnight before serving.
