Simple Ingredients Needed To Make Delicious Strawberry Crumble (Fresh Juicy Strawberries + Strawberry Pie Filling)
- Strawberry Pie Filling : This is an easy way to bulk up the filling without all the prep work needed for fresh strawberries. It also helps thicken the fresh strawberry sauce from the fresh strawberries, and gives the crumble filling a boost of sweet flavor with a strawberry glaze.
- Chopped Fresh Strawberries
- Vanilla Extract
- Oatmeal Cookie Mix : This is a bag of dry ingredients for oatmeal cookies. You will find it in the baking aisle near the muffins mixes and cake mixes. No need to prepare according to package directions, simply follow the recipe below.
- Whole Old-Fashioned Oats
- Salted Butter
How To Make Easy Strawberry Crumble (Printable Recipe Card Below)
Heat the oven to 375 degrees F. Prepare a 9×13 baking dish and spray with cooking spray. Set aside.
In a large bowl, add the strawberry pie filling, chopped strawberries, and vanilla extract. Mix gently until well combined. Pour the strawberry mixture into the prepared pan and spread it into an even layer.
In a separate bowl, add the dry oatmeal cookie mix and whole oats. Stir together to combine. Add the softened butter and use an electric hand mixer to beat it, on medium-high speed, until crumbly and combined. Sprinkle the crumble mixture over top the strawberry mixture inside the pan.
Bake the strawberry crumble for 35-45 minutes or until golden brown on top and the fruit is bubbling up around the edges.
Let the strawberry crumble sit and rest for a few minutes before serving the warm crumble topped with a scoop of ice cream.
How To Store Leftover Strawberry Crumble
You can store your strawberry crumble in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Cover it tightly with plastic wrap or aluminum foil, or put individual-sized leftover portions inside an airtight container. Before serving, you can reheat the crumble in the oven or microwave until warmed.
If you want to freeze the crumble, store it in a freezer-safe container for 2-3 months. To reheat the frozen crumble, let it thaw in the refrigerator overnight and then reheat it in the oven until warm. Please be aware that the crumble may change in texture once frozen and thawed.
What Changes Can I Make To This Recipe?
This delicious dessert is so easy and versatile; you’ll want to make it repeatedly! Which is not a bad thing because there are also several ways to switch it up and make it different each time if wanted. Here are some ideas to get you started.
- Different Fruit : Use a different type of canned fruit pie filling and fresh fruit. You could even do two different types of fruit! Try using blueberry pie filling + fresh blueberries (for a lemon version add some fresh lemon zest and/or fresh lemon juice in with the blueberry mixture), try using raspberry pie filling + fresh raspberries, blackberry pie filling + fresh blackberries, or apple pie filling and very thinly sliced apples (make sure they are cut very thin so they will cook in time).
- Cookie Mix : Swap out the oatmeal cookie mix with a different one like a sugar cookie mix or peanut butter cookie mix.
- Chopped Nuts : Add some chopped nuts, like pecans or walnuts, into the oatmeal cookie crumble mixture for added crunch and texture. It also adds a nice salty balance to the sweet dessert.
- Individual Portions : Make individual portions of this crumble dessert by using ramekins or muffin tins instead of one large baking dish. The cook time may vary slightly so watch it carefully.
- Serve : A warm fruit crisp or crumble is always best served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream but feel free to serve it with some freshly whipped cream, spray whipped cream, a dollop of Cool Whip, or some ice cream sauce such as strawberry sauce, caramel sauce, or chocolate sauce.
Can I Make Strawberry Crumble Ahead of Time?
Yes, you can prepare this easy dessert ahead of time and store it in the fridge until ready to bake. Just make sure to cover it tightly with a lid, plastic wrap, or aluminum foil while in the fridge. Bake according to the recipe instructions when ready to serve this easy crumble recipe.
Can I Frozen Strawberries Instead of Fresh Strawberries?
In a pinch, yes, you can use frozen strawberries in this recipe. Although I highly recommend sticking with fresh strawberries. If using frozen, allow the strawberries to thaw completely and then drain them well. If you don’t thaw the frozen berries first and drain them well, then the crumble will have too much liquid in it and it won’t turn out as pictured.
