Grinch Pretzel Bites Recipe
These grinch pretzel bites are made with only 3 convenient, and ready-to-use ingredients like pretzels, candy melts, and an edible red heart decoration. They make for the perfect snack to munch on while watching the classic movie during Christmastime.
I have so many cute Christmas treats to share with y’all but this month of December had other plans for us. Between bronchitis, the flu, strep throat, and other fun stuff our entire month has been spent sick. Hopefully you’re all well and I will try to get some fun stuff posted in the next few days 🎄🎁.
Ingredients Needed
- Square Pretzels – These are called ‘snaps’ on the bag and they are square shaped pretzels that have a criss-cross pattern in the center. I highly recommend using them because they have a more covered and larger surface area, which holds up the soft chocolate better than regular pretzel twists.
- Light Green Candy Melts – You will normally find these in the cake decorating aisle, the seasonal aisle, or sometimes the baking aisle. They are little circles that are light green in color and they come in a bag that says ‘candy melts’ on the front. They’re made by the brand Wilton.
- Red Hearts – I always just pick the red hearts from a Valentine’s sprinkles mix. You can also buy just containers of red hearts either on Amazon, at craft stores, or sometimes at grocery stores in the baking aisle or cake decorating aisle. If you can’t find them, no worries! There are plenty of ways to still make these without the red hearts so that they’ll still resemble the grinch.
How To Make Grinch Pretzels
Learn how to make this easy recipe for grinch pretzel bites with the simple, easy to follow steps below. Be sure and read to the bottom of the post where there is a printable recipe card and a pin it button so you can save it for later.
- Prep : Preheat the oven to 250 degrees F. Prepare a cookie sheet by lining with parchment paper.
- Grinch Pretzels : Evenly space out the square pretzels, in rows, on the parchment paper. Place a light green candy melt onto the center of each pretzel.
- Bake : Cook for 2-3 minutes. The candy melt will look shiny and it should still be in its original shape. If it’s not, then you have cooked it for too long.
- Decorations & Set Time : Place a red heart onto each candy melt. Let the pretzels sit at room temperature for 30 minutes or until set and the chocolate is hardened.
What If I Can’t Find Heart Sprinkles?
I have ordered the red heart shaped sprinkles on Amazon before. Also, try looking in the cake decorating aisle for some as well. If you can’t find them anywhere then try using red sprinkles instead like the larger ball shaped sprinkles that you can find at craft stores, or just the regular red sprinkles work as well.
If you have leftover Valentine’s Day sprinkles then pick out the red hearts from that mix. That is usually what I end up doing and it works great! No one will know the difference.
What Are The Green Candy Melts?
These can be sometimes tricky to find around the Holidays. I always have good luck finding them at a store like Walmart in the cake decorating aisle. So not the baking aisle, but rather the cake decorating one. Craft stores also carry the candy melts by Wilton.
They are round disc shaped chocolate melts by the brand Wilton. There are lots of green color options but the ‘light green’ color most resembles the Grinch.
If all else fails use a Hershey’s chocolate kiss for the center of the pretzels rather than the green candy melt. Or try using a red candy melt instead of the green and then top it off with green sprinkles.
How To Store Leftover Pretzel Bites
Store these cute little Grinch treats in an airtight container, at room temperature, for up to 7 days.
Recipe Tips
Here are a few of my helpful tips so that you can have success recreating this recipe in your own kitchen ♥
- Don’t Overbake : When you take the pan out of the oven the candy melts should look shiny but they should still be in their original shape! If they are not in their original shape that means that have been in there too long, and once you press the heart on the chocolate will just fall over the sides. Set the cook time at the lowest and watch from there.
- Pretzels : Although I recommend, and highly suggest using the square ‘snap’ pretzels, you can substitute with regular pretzel twists.
- Red Heart Substitutes : If you’re having trouble finding these then there are a couple of options. Use red sprinkles, Christmas themed sprinkles, go to a craft store and get those red ball sprinkles (the larger ball shaped) and place one of those on each pretzel bite. You could even use a red hot cinnamon candy and place one of those on each candy melt. Or try a red m&m instead.
- Serving Size : Make as many, or as little, as you want! Just make sure you have enough candy melts, pretzels, and red hearts for however many you are making. The recipe makes 42 pretzel bites because there are 42 light green candy melts in one bag. So buy an additional bag candy melts if you want more. The bag of pretzels has plenty in it so one bag is just fine.
