Ingredients Needed

  • Orange Candy Melts – These are small discs of chocolate that are colored orange. They are easy to melt, won’t seize up, and they’re orange which is what we need to make the strawberry look like a ‘carrot’. You will find these at any craft store or in the cake decorating aisle at a store like Walmart.
  • Coconut Oil – This gets stirred into the melted candy melts to make it shiny and smooth for dipping. Plus, the coconut oil helps the chocolate harden as well.
  • Whole Strawberries – Make sure these are washed and patted dry with a paper towel before dipping them into the chocolate.
  • Crushed/Chopped Oreo Cookies – This is what makes the ‘carrot patch dirt’ for the carrots to be served on. It is optional and a fun way to serve these carrots.

Carrot Patch Chocolate Covered Strawberries FAQ’s

  • Why Do I Need To Add Coconut Oil To The Melted Chocolate?

    • Stirring some coconut oil into the melted chocolate helps thin it out making it easier to dip the strawberries. It also makes the chocolate shiny with a gloss type finish to it. And, coconut oil helps the chocolate harden on the strawberry.
  • How To Store Leftovers

    • Store any leftovers in an airtight container for up to 1-2 days. I think these are best served right after they are made and had time to set and harden.
    • The strawberry gives off lots of liquid as they sit in the fridge, which makes the chocolate have a weird texture.
  • How To Wash & Dry Strawberries

    • Put the strawberries into a colander and run cold water over them. Put the strawberries on top of some paper towels.
    • Take some more paper towels and gently pat the strawberries dry.
    • It’s important that the strawberries are dried before you try and dip them into the chocolate. If they are wet, the chocolate won’t adhere to them as well.

Notes

Nutrition Information : This amount is for 1 chocolate dipped strawberry. It does not include any of the Oreo cookie crumbs.
Wash & Dry Strawberries : Place strawberries into a colander and run it under some cold water to rinse the strawberries. Place the berries on a layer of paper towels or a clean kitchen towel. Use some additional paper towels to gently blot and dab the strawberries dry.
Coconut Oil : It's important to use the coconut oil in the melted chocolate because it provides a glossy sheen to the chocolate, helps to thin it out which makes it easier to dip the berries into, and it helps the chocolate harden and adhere better to the strawberries.
