Cheeseburger Sliders Recipe

I am so excited to share this dinnertime favorite recipe – cheeseburger sliders! It’s the best way to use up 1 pound of ground beef.

I am always looking for family favorite, tried & true dinner ideas that use up a pound of ground beef. It’s a versatile and usually inexpensive protein option to feed the family.

And who doesn’t love cheeseburgers?! Cheesy, melty, beefy, and loaded with flavor thanks to the sautéed onion and the buttery seasoned topping that gets brushed over the savory butter slider buns.

Ingredients Needed

  • Ground Beef – I use 93/7 lean ground beef in this recipe to avoid a greasy ground beef filling. The excess grease will get drained anyways, after cooking, but I still prefer a leaner ground meat.
  • Finely Diced Yellow Onion
  • Ketchup
  • Kosher Salt & Pepper – Simple seasonings for the hamburger meat.
  • Savory Butter Slider Rolls – I use the King’s Hawaiian brand. You want to use slider buns that are still attached as a pack of 12.
  • American Cheese – I use the processed Kraft American cheese because it melts smoothly and makes for the perfect cheeseburger! You can also use sliced cheddar cheese, or other variety, but it won’t melt as well as the processed cheese.
  • Melted Butter + Dijon Mustard + Worcestershire sauce + Everything Bagel Seasoning – This is the mixture that gets brushed over the slider buns before baking. So yummy!

How To Make Cheeseburger Sliders (Hamburger Sliders) with Step-by-Step Directions

  1. Ground Beef + Onion : In a skillet pan, over medium-high heat, cook and crumble the ground beef along with the diced onion, salt, and pepper. When meat is no longer pink and the onion is softened, drain the excess grease from the pan.
  2. Add Ketchup : Stir in the ketchup until all the meat is well coated in it. I like to leave the pan over low heat for this, just to help the ketchup mix in better. Take off the heat and set aside.
  3. Cheeseburger Sliders : Use a serrated knife to slice the slider rolls in half lengthwise. Like a hamburger bun so you end up with top and bottom buns. Don’t separate the slider rolls. Leave them attached. Place the bottom layer of slider rolls into a 9×13 baking pan. Spread the ground beef over top and then layer the sliced American cheese over top the beef. Top it with the top slider roll layer.
  4. Butter Topping : Stir together the melted butter, dijon mustard, Worcestershire sauce, and everything bagel seasoning. Use a basting brush to brush the butter mixture over top the slider rolls.
  5. Bake : Cook for 10-13 minutes or until the rolls are toasted, warmed, and the cheese is melted.

What Slider Rolls Are Best To Use?

I always use the King’s Hawaiian brand of savory butter rolls. You can also use the sweeter Hawaiian slider rolls as well (from the same brand). Sometimes the bakery section of the store sells slider buns as well.

Whichever kind you use, make sure that they are attached together. Meaning that they are not separated (into 12 separate slider rolls) inside the package. Instead, they should be connected and in one package together as one square or rectangular shaped unit.

Can I Make These Ahead of Time?

I do not recommend making cheeseburger sliders ahead of time. The longer that the beef and cheese sit inside the soft slider rolls, the more soggy the bottom bread portion will get. I recommend making these right before serving them, and eating them warm!

How To Store and Reheat Leftover Cheeseburger Sliders

Store any leftovers in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to 2 days. To reheat leftovers, you can use the microwave – although that will lead to a softer and slightly soggy slider, or put the sliders on a small baking sheet and warm up in the oven for 5-10 minutes.

You can also warm them up in a toaster oven or inside the air fryer for a few minutes. These are best served right after they cook, while still melty and warmed, so my family does not love leftovers.

Recipe Tips

  • Serving Suggestions : I always serve these sliders with some sliced dill pickles on the side. Not all my family loves pickles, so this way whoever loves them can easily add them onto their slider. You could even use shredded green lettuce and sliced tomato as another topping option. Or eat the sliders as is, they are so delicious!
  • Baking Pan : You can use either a baking sheet (like a cookie sheet) lined with parchment paper or a 9×13 pan lined with parchment paper. The slider rolls obviously won’t fill up either pan, but that’s fine, cause they just need to toast and warm in the oven.
  • Cheese : You can use sliced cheddar cheese, or another variety, but just know that it won’t melt as smoothly and melty (gooey) as the process American cheese will. For some spice use sliced Pepper Jack cheese. Or stick with mild cheddar cheese or Colby Jack cheese.
  • Make It Spicy! : For a spicy hamburger filling try adding some cayenne red pepper, red pepper chili flakes, chili powder, or use spicy ketchup in the recipe.

Ingredients

Cheeseburger Sliders

  • 1 pound ground beef (I use 93/7)
  • 1 small yellow onion finely diced
  • ½ teaspoon kosher salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 package (12 count) King's Hawaiian Savory Butter Slider Rolls
  • 8-10 slices processed American cheese (like Kraft singles)

Seasoned Butter Topping

  • 2 tablespoons butter melted
  • 1 tablespoon dijon mustard
  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350℉. Line a baking sheet or a 9×13 baking pan with parchment paper and set aside.
    * I use a 9×13 baking pan and it helps to spray the pan first and then line it with parchment paper. The spray helps the paper adhere to and stay in the pan.
  • In a skillet pan, over medium-high heat, add the ground beef, finely diced onion, kosher salt, and pepper. Cook and crumble the ground beef until it's no longer pink and the onions are softened. Drain the excess grease liquid from the pan.
1 pound ground beef, 1 small yellow onion, ½ teaspoon kosher salt, ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Stir the ketchup into the ground beef until it's well coated.
    * I like to leave the heat on for this to help the ketchup easily mix into the beef.
    2 tablespoons ketchup
  • Keeping the rolls attached, use a serrated knife to cut the slider rolls in half lengthwise. You should end up with a top bun layer and a bottom bun layer of attached slider rolls.
1 package (12 count) King's Hawaiian Savory Butter Slider Rolls
  • Assemble Cheeseburger Sliders
    – Place the bottom layer of slider rolls into the prepared pan.
    – Top with the ground beef mixture and spread it out evenly.

    – Place the top layer of slider rolls over top the cheese.
    8-10 slices processed American cheese
  • Stir together the melted butter, dijon mustard, wrocestershire sauce, and everything bagel seasoning in a small bowl. Use a basting brush to brush the mixture over top the slider rolls.
2 tablespoons butter, 1 tablespoon dijon mustard, 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce, 1 teaspoon everything bagel seasoning
  • Bake for 10-13 minutes or until the rolls are toasted and the cheese is melted.
  • Serve immediately as is or with some hamburger toppings like sliced dill pickles, shredded lettuce, and sliced tomato.
