Delicious Caramel Apple Dip

This sweet dessert dip is the perfect easy recipe for fall gatherings, holiday parties, family gatherings, weekend snack, or even as an after school snack. Easy enough to make with only 5 ingredients and it pairs so perfectly with apple slices.

The apple dip has a sweet cream cheese base layer with brown sugar, caramel sauce, and vanilla and then it’s topped with crunchy toffee bits and more caramel sauce. This dip is always a huge hit for any time of year, but especially in the Fall!

It’s best served alongside fresh fruit such as grapes, strawberries, and apple slices, and can even be served with graham crackers, cookies, pretzels, or vanilla wafers.

Only 5 Simple Ingredients Needed

  1. Cream Cheese : I recommend using full-fat cream cheese for the cream cheese layer. It has more flavor, it’s thicker, creamier, and just tastes much better. Of course, the lite or reduced-fat cream cheese can be used if that’s what you want.
  2. Light Brown Sugar
  3. Caramel Sauce : Buy a jar of caramel sauce, use caramel syrup, or use Homemade Caramel Sauce. I like the Ghirardelli brand caramel sauce that comes in a plastic bottle.
  4. Vanilla Extract
  5. Chocolate Toffee Bits : These are bits of toffee with a chocolate coating. You will find them near the chocolate chips in the baking aisle at the grocery store.

How To Store Caramel Apple Fruit Dip

This dip should be stored in an airtight container, or cover the pie plate with a lid or plastic wrap, inside the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Serve the dip chilled with apple slices. I don’t recommend saving any leftover apple slices. Slice those just before serving to prevent them from browning.

Serving Suggestions For Easy Caramel Apple Dip Recipe

This dip is best served with slices of your favorite tart apples. I love using this Apple Corer and Peeler to slice the apples for serving. Really good apple choices include Golden Delicious, Granny Smith apples, Fuji, Gala, Honey Crisp, and Pink Lady apples.

Other serving options are grapes, strawberries, pretzels, Nilla Wafers, and graham crackers.

Recipe FAQs

Can I Make This Ahead of Time?

Yes, you can make this dessert caramel dip ahead of time. Make as instructed, cover, and store in the fridge until ready to serve. I actually prefer this dip chilled before serving, so I always make it a few hours ahead of time.

Should I Refrigerate The Dip Before Serving or Serve Immediately?

Its entirely up to you! I prefer the dip chilled after I make it, so I cover the pie plate, and refrigerate it for a couple of hours before serving. It can also be served immediately after making it. Either way is totally delicious, and it really depends on if you want the dip firmer and cold, or the dip to be softer and closer to room temperature.

I Forgot To Take The Cream Cheese Out To Get It To Room Temperature. Is There A Quick Way?

One of the quickest and easiest ways to get cream cheese quickly to room temperature it to get a bowl of warm/hot water (not all the way hot), remove the cream cheese from the box but keep the aluminum wrapper on it, and place it in the bowl of water for 10 minutes. You can also unwrap the cream cheese, place it on a microwave-safe plate, and microwave it for about 15 seconds to soften it. Make sure to not make it warm in the microwave.

Do I Use Light Brown Sugar or Dark Brown Sugar?

I always use light brown sugar as that is typical in baking. However, you can use dark brown sugar but please note that it will make the dip sweeter, with a deeper molasses flavor, and it will make the dip darken in color slightly.

How Can I Prevent Apple Slices From Browning For Serving?

There is an easy fix for this! Simply slice the apples and immediately after slicing, place them in a bowl full of cold water + lemon juice. I don’t measure out the lemon juice, and I use bottled lemon juice that I keep in the fridge, just squirt some into the bowl of cold water and you’re good to go. I then take the apple slices out and place them onto some paper towel and dab them dry, before putting them onto a serving tray to use in the dip. This won’t stop the browning but it will significantly slow it down.

  • 1 bar (8 oz) full-fat cream cheese room temperature

  • 1 cup caramel sauce divided
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions

*If you want the dip chilled for serving (my preference) cover the pie plate with a lid or plastic wrap, and refrigerate for 1-2 hours before serving. The dip is softer when served immediately after making it. For a firmer, chilled dip you will want to refrigerate it.
