Substitutions & Ingredient Notes

  • Sour Cream : An alternative, healthier option is to use plain Greek yogurt. This will significantly change the taste so I recommend maybe using 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt + 1/2 sour cream. For best results, use full-fat sour cream for the best creamy thick texture and rich taste.
  • Mayonnaise : For an egg-free option use a vegan mayonnaise. I also recommend using a full-fat mayonnaise as the overall taste and texture of the dip will be much better. Of course you could use light, avocado oil, or olive oil mayonnaise as well.
  • Fresh Parsley : Make sure you are using the flat-leaf parsley and not the curly leaf parsley. You could use dried parsley (only use 2 teaspoons) but please note, that using dried parsley will give the dip a more earthy flavor, while using fresh parsley gives the dip a fresher and brighter flavor.

Serving Suggestions For Blue Cheese Dip

  • Vegetables : Carrots, cucumbers, celery, or bell peppers (any color).
  • Chips & Crackers : Tortilla chips, blue corn chips, pretzels, toasted baguette bread slices, pita crackers, naan dippers, warmed pita bread, crackers of choice, etc.
  • Wings : This blue cheese dip is the perfect sauce to dip classic wings or buffalo wings into. Try my Hot Honey Buffalo Wings for the perfect pairing.
  • Wraps or Sandwiches : Use the dip as a spread for wraps or sandwiches.
  • Tortilla Roll-Ups : I love to take the extra dip and spread it onto large tortillas, then layer some deli sliced buffalo turkey breast over top, and roll up tightly, refrigerate, and then cut into rolls. One of the best appetizers or snacks.

Recipe FAQs

Can I Make This Dip Spicy?

Yes, you can make blue cheese dip spicy by adding red pepper flakes or hot sauce. However, if you’re planning on serving it with some hot wings or buffalo wings, then you might want to hold off on adding spice because the cool, creamy, mild dip goes perfect with spicy buffalo wings.

Is The Dip Lumpy or Smooth? How Can I Make It Smooth?

This dip is lumpy from the blue cheese crumbles, but if you would rather it be smooth, you can take an immersion blender to it and blend until creamy and smooth. Another option is to put the blue cheese crumbles in a foo process or food chopper, and chop/blend until it’s smooth or in smaller crumbles. Then add those into the mixing bowl along with the other ingredients.

Can I Make This Ahead of Time?

Yes, it needs to be made at least one hour ahead of time to serve, but it can also be made up to 1-2 days in advance. I actually prefer refrigerating the dip for longer than 1 hour, as the chill time gives the flavors more time to meld together. I think it tastes better when it’s super chilled.

How Can I Keep The Dip Cold While Serving It At A Party?

If you’re serving the dip at a party or get together, and need to keep it cool while letting it remain out at room temperature for awhile, here is an easy option. I like to take a tray or baking pan, something shallow and larger than the bowl that the dip is in, and put ice cubes in it. Then put the dip over the ice. It works good enough to keep the dip cooler while it’s out at room temperature.

Blue Cheese Dip is creamy, tangy, and loaded with bold flavor from crumbled blue cheese. It pairs perfectly as a dip for wings, fresh veggies, a wedge salad, or as a chip dip. Takes just minutes to make and it's always a favorite for game day, gatherings, and parties.

Ingredients

  • 4 ounces blue cheese crumbles
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 cup mayonnaise
  • 1/2 cup sliced green onions
  • 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley (flat-leaf parsley)
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • ½ teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (I use sea salt or kosher salt)

Instructions

  • In a medium bowl, or serving bowl, combine all the ingredients and mix until well blended.
4 ounces blue cheese crumbles, 1 cup sour cream, 1 cup mayonnaise, 1/2 cup sliced green onions, 2 tablespoons chopped fresh parsley, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, ¼ teaspoon salt
  • Cover and refrigerate for at least 1 hour.
*You can refrigerate the dip for up to 24 hours. I prefer a longer chill time as it gives more time for the flavors to blend and the dip to get really cold.
  • Serve with your favorite chips, vegetables, or wings. Enjoy!

Notes

  • Sour Cream : An alternative, healthier option is to use plain Greek yogurt. This will significantly change the taste so I recommend maybe using 1/2 cup plain Greek yogurt + 1/2 sour cream. For best results, use full-fat sour cream for the best creamy thick texture and rich taste.

You could use dried parsley (only use 2 teaspoons) but please note, that using dried parsley will give the dip a more earthy flavor, while using fresh parsley gives the dip a fresher and brighter flavor.
  • Serving Suggestions : Fresh veggie sticks like celery, carrots, and cucumbers. As a dip for crispy chicken wings. As a dressing for a wedge salad. Use it as a sauce for sandwiches or wraps. Serve with an assortment of crackers, pita bread or crackers, tortilla chips, or with warm naan bread.
  • Want A Smooth Dip? : This dip is lumpy because of the blue cheese crumbles. If you want a smooth dip then take an immersion blender to it and blend until smooth. Another alternative is to put all the ingredients (or just the blue cheese crumbles) into a food processor and process/blend until smooth or the texture you want. You could also use a fork to mash the blue cheese crumbles before adding them into the mixing bowl.
