Ingredients Needed (Only 4 Ingredients!)
- Frozen Cheese Ravioli – Feel free to use any type of filled ravioli in this recipe. Costco has a really good chicken & spinach ravioli, or try some of the frozen beef or spinach ravioli at the grocery store. Cheese is the classic version to use in this recipe.
- Spaghetti Sauce – I love Rao’s Homemade spaghetti sauce. It is pricey but the flavor is amazing and when you’re only using 4 ingredients, it’s important to use quality ones that have a great taste already. Any 24 ounce jar of spaghetti sauce will work in this bake recipe.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- Shredded Parmesan Cheese

Learn how to make this easy, kid-friendly, inexpensive ravioli bake with the easy steps below. Be sure and read to the bottom of the post where there is a printable recipe card, a pin it button so you can save it for later, and a recipe card with all the details and tips for success.
- Preparation : Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Spray a 9×13 baking dish with cooking spray.
- Ravioli Bake Layers : Spread 1/2 cup of the spaghetti sauce into the bottom of the prepared pan. Arrange half of the frozen ravioli in a single layer in the bottom. Top with half of the remaining spaghetti sauce, then with half of the mozzarella cheese. Repeat those layers on more time (even layer of ravioli + sauce + mozzarella cheese) so you are ending with the cheese layer at the top.
- Bake : Cover the pan with foil and bake for 40 minutes. Uncover and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes until the cheese begins to brown.
- Serve : Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over top and serve warm.
Frozen Ravioli Bake FAQ’s
-
How To Store Leftovers
- Leftover frozen ravioli bake will store well in the fridge, in an airtight container, for up to 5 days.
-
What Kind of Ravioli Do I Use?
- Round or square ravioli will both work great. The square raviolis will cover more space while the round ones are usually smaller and you will end up with the gaps between them.
- You can also use fresh ravioli too. Just decrease the cook time to 20-25 minutes if using fresh ones.
- The most important thing with the ravioli is that they are in a single layer. No overlapping and ones on top of each other.
-
Variation & Substitution Ideas
- There are so many ways to switch up this recipe. Here are some ideas along with things that I have done.
- Ravioli : Use cheese ravioli, sausage ravioli, beef ravioli, chicken and spinach ravioli, spinach ravioli, square, round… You get the idea. Use any variety you want!
- Cheese : For extra cheesiness try using slices of mozzarella cheese instead of shredded cheese. You will need about 16 slices of sliced mozzarella cheese.
- Seasonings & Herbs : This is so easy to add whatever dried seasonings you want. The most common is to sprinkle some Italian seasoning, parsley flakes, and/or dried basil. You can also add some red chili pepper flakes for some spice. When I use seasonings, I sprinkle it on top of the spaghetti sauce before I layer the cheese on it.
- Spaghetti/Marinara Sauce : Use any jarred sauce you want! Literally any of it. There are so many varieties from mini meatball, sausage, tomato & basil, four cheese, to garden vegetable. It all works in this recipe!

How To Make Ravioli Bake Ahead of Time
- You can assemble this ahead of time. Prepare the casserole as directed in the recipe, cover with foil, and let it refrigerate all day (or even overnight is fine too). Because you are basically thawing the frozen ravioli in the fridge, decrease the cook time to 20-25 minutes.
-
Can I Use Homemade Pasta Sauce?
- Yes! And that is a fabulous idea too. It won’t really make this an easy dinner but it will sure be tasty.
- Try making my Homemade Spaghetti Meat Sauce or this Easy Spaghetti Sauce. If using homemade sauce, you will need about 3 cups of it.
Recipe Tips
Here are a few of my helpful tips so that you can successfully recreate this recipe in your own kitchen ♥
- Good Quality Marinara/Spaghetti Sauce : When a recipe has so few ingredients, like only 4, it’ important to use products that are good quality and have a good taste to them. I love the Rao’s homemade marinara sauce but it is on the expensive side. Any jarred spaghetti sauce can be used, and any variety or flavor can be used as well, just make sure that you love the taste of it. The Classico brand is another great & more inexpensive one to use.
- Single Layer Ravioli : In testing this recipe I thought it would be a great idea to just dump the ravioli into the baking dish. Which makes the recipe literally a ‘dump & bake’ dinner. What happened was that the ravioli was sticking together, never cooked fully, and it just was not good at all. Make sure that the two layers of ravioli inside the pan are in an even layer. No ravioli should be stuck to another one.
- Cheese : I prefer to shred the cheese from a block or ball of mozzarella. Pre-shredded mozzarella can be used just fine if you really want a quick & easy meal. For a cheesier casserole, try using slices of mozzarella cheese instead of shredded.
