Pizza Muffin Recipe
Pizza muffins are savory muffins full of all your favorite pizza toppings – soft, seasoned bread, gooey mozzarella cheese, herbs, and mini pepperonis. They’re a fun twist to classic pizza and a great choice for a quick snack, after-school snack, or for pizza night.
With only 8 simple ingredients, with most of them being pantry staples that you can easily keep on hand, this is one of those quick recipes that can always be ready to go. It starts with a baking mix and dried herbs that create the pillowy soft ‘pizza crust’, and then loaded with gooey mozzarella cheese and mini pepperonis.

Only 8 Simple Ingredients Needed
- Bisquick Baking Mix
- Whole Milk
- Large Eggs
- Italian Seasoning
- Garlic Powder
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese
- Pizza Sauce
- Mini Pepperonis

How To Make Easy Pizza Muffins (Printable Recipe Card)
Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with parchment paper liners or lightly spray each cup with nonstick cooking spray.
In a large bowl, whisk together the biquick mix, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder until evenly combined and no lumps remain.
In a separate smaller bowl, whisk together the eggs and milk until combined.

Pour the wet ingredients into the bowl of dry ingredients. Stir with a spatula until it is just combined and making sure to not overmix. The batter should be slightly thick but still scoop able.
Stir in the shredded mozzarella cheese until evenly distributed.
Divide the pizza muffin biscuit dough evenly between the muffin cups; filling each cup about 3/4 of the way full.
Bake for 15-18 minutes or until the tops are lightly golden brown and a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Remove the pan from the oven and immediately spread about 1 tablespoon of pizza on top of each muffin. Sprinkle with some shredded mozzarella cheese and a few mini pepperonis per muffin.

Return the muffin pan to the oven and cook for an additional 2-3 minutes just until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
Cool the muffins in the warm pan for 5 minutes before removing them for serving. Serve warm with a side of warm pizza sauce for dipping. Enjoy!

How To Store Leftovers
Store cooled pizza muffins in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 3 days. Reheat leftovers in the microwave or toaster oven until heated through.

Substitutions & Ingredient Notes
- Bisquick : This is a baking mix that consists of the dry ingredients needed. I know there are store brand version that will work just as well. Also, the Bisquick baking mix comes in gluten-free and a lower-fat option, so choose those if needed. I have only ever used the classic Bisquick mix in the yellow box.
- Whole Milk : This is the best milk to use because it has a higher fat content but is still thin enough to not thicken the batter too much. I recommend only using whole milk as the recipe has not been tested with anything else.
- Shredded Mozzarella Cheese : Pre-shredded can be used, but for the best creamy melt and taste, I highly recommend buying a block of mozzarella cheese and using a cheese grater to shred it yourself. The little bit of extra time is always worth it. But, I have made this recipe with pre-shredded cheese (on like those really busy nights!) and they turn out fine.
- Pizza Sauce : You can use your favorite pizza sauce from the grocery store, homemade pizza sauce, or even jarred marinara sauce. You will have extra that you can warm up for serving.

Pro Tips From The Test Kitchen
- Use freshly shredded mozzarella cheese for the best melt and flavor, as pre-shredded cheese has anti-caking agents that affect the texture and smooth melt of the cheese.
- Avoid overmixing the batter or else the muffins can become dense once baked. Use a rubber mixing spatula, or mixing spoon, to gently mix everything together just until it’s combined and no more.
- These are best served warm straight from the oven with a side of warm pizza sauce for dipping. You will have extra pizza sauce in the jar, so warm that up for serving.
- My family loves these as a quick & easy dinner that is so kid-friendly. Or they make great after-school snacks, game day snacks, or something that everyone can munch on at lunchtime.
- Make it a bit spicy by adding some red pepper flakes in with the other dried seasonings.
- Add some chopped black olives, or sliced black olives, on top of the muffins along with the mini pepperonis. You could also sprinkle some grated parmesan cheese on top as well for added flavor.
