Monster Truffles (With Golden Oreos)
Are you looking for a fun and festive treat that’s perfect for Halloween or a monster-themed party? Try these monster truffles, easily made and are sure to impress your guests.
Crushed golden Oreo cookies mixed with cream cheese to form a truffle dough, then rolled into balls, and dipped into festive colored candy melts. Decorate the oreo truffles with a large candy eyeball and Halloween sprinkles.
Only 5 Ingredients Needed
- Family-Size Golden Oreos : Do not use the double stuffed Oreos. Make sure you are buying the larger package of Oreo cookies (labeled as family-size).
- Cream Cheese : The cream cheese needs to be well softened so you avoid lumps in the cookie truffle mixture. Leave it out at room temperature up to 2 hours prior, or place the unwrapped bar in the microwave (on a plate) and microwave for about 40 seconds or until it’s softened but not melted and super hot.
- Colored Candy Melts : I recommend using bright orange or bright green. You can find the candy melts in the cake decorating aisle of the grocery store (like Walmart) or in any craft store. You could also use white candy melts or white almond bark and use gel food coloring to obtain the color you want.
- Halloween Sprinkles
- Large Candy Eyeballs : Each monster truffle gets a large candy eye for that ‘monster’ effect.
How To Make Golden Oreo Cookie Monster Truffles (Printable Recipe Card)
Place the Golden Oreos into a food processor and process until well crushed and in fine crumbs. You may have to do this in batches, depending on the size of the food processor.
Add in the cream cheese and pulse until well combined. If you did the cookies in batches, place the cookie crumbs inside a large mixing bowl and add the softened cream cheese. Use an electric hand mixer to beat until it’s well combined.
Use a medium cookie scoop, 1.5 tablespoons, to scoop out the truffle dough and roll it into a tight ball. Place the truffles onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
Place the truffles inside the fridge for at least 30 minutes, or up to 1 hour, to set.
When ready to decorate the truffles, place the candy melts inside a microwave-safe mixing bowl and heat in 30 second increments, stirring well after each heating, until smooth and melted.
Working one at a time, dip the truffle inside the melted chocolate and let the excess drip off. Place the dipped truffle back onto the baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Immediately press a large eyeballs onto the top of each truffle and add some sprinkles on top.
Repeat the process until all the truffles are dipped and decorated.
Allow the truffles to set inside the fridge for 30 minutes or at room temperature for up to 1 hour.
Enjoy your little monsters!
How To Store Monster Oreo Truffles
Store the truffles in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 1 week. I recommend letting the truffles sit at room temperature for a short time (about 15-20 minutes) before serving for the best experience. They can be eaten chilled from the fridge, but the exterior candy melt coating can get really crunchy and harder to bite through when chilled.
Can I Make Changes To This Recipe?
Yes, there are several ways to customize this recipe to your liking. Here are some ideas to get you started.
- Oreo Flavors : You can use any Oreo cookie you like; such as mint, regular, peanut butter, or even birthday cake.
- Cream Cheese Flavors : Although I recommend sticking with regular cream cheese, you can use a flavored cream cheese instead; such as strawberry, honey nut, cinnamon, etc. Using spreadable flavored cream cheese will result in a softer truffle so it won’t hold it’s shape as well, compared to when using regular cream cheese.
- Candy Melt Colors : Any candy melt can be used. You can also use white almond bark or melt some white chocolate baking bars instead. Maybe try a drizzle of colored candy melts over the white dipped truffles instead. Or you can use gel food colors to dye the white chocolate a different color. I recommend using bright orange, purple, or bright green colored candy melts for that ‘monster’ effect.
- Sprinkles : You can use any color, variety, or shape of sprinkles to decorate the truffles with. Or try using two different kinds for a fun look. You could also use edible glitter for extra monster sparkle. I prefer using the little ball sprinkles, also called non-pareils.
- Candy Eyes : If you can’t find the larger eyeballs, or you just want a different look, you can use multiple smaller ones or single smaller one for each truffle. You could also use other small candies to decorate the truffles, or to make monster faces with on the truffles, such as candy corn, gummy worms, mini chocolate chips, or licorice strings to create the monster smile.
