Ingredients Needed

  1. Butter : Either unsalted butter or salted butter will work well, whichever you prefer. I always use salted butter when baking.
  2. Mini Marshmallows : The recipe calls for 8 cups of mini marshmallows so be sure and buy the larger bag of mini marshmallows. The smaller 10 ounce bag only has about 6 cups in it which won’t be enough.
  3. Vanilla Extract : For the best flavor I recommend only using pure vanilla extract.
  4. Rice Krispies Cereal : Generic brands or the name brand all work just fine.
  5. Ghoul’s Mix Halloween M&M’s
  6. Candy Corn
  7. Halloween Sprinkles
  8. White Almond Bark OR White Melting Wafers
  9. Edible Eyeballs

Let the rice krispie treat mixture sit and cool for 2-3 minutes before adding in the candy.

Stir in 1/2 cup of m&m’s, 1/2 cup of candy corn, and 2 tablespoons of the sprinkles. Stir gently to combine.

Press the Rice Krispie mixture into the prepared pan. Be careful not to heavily press or smash the Rice Krispie treats into the pan or else they will tough and dry.

Press the remaining candy and sprinkles over top. You may have to gently press the candy into the bars to get them to stay.

Melt the almond bark or melting wafers in the microwave according to the package directions. Place the melted chocolate into a sandwich Ziploc bag and snip the bottom corner off. Drizzle the melted chocolate over top the bars and immediately press the candy eyeballs into the chocolate lines.

Substitution & Variation Ideas

  • Half Plain Rice Krispies + Half Chocolate Krispies : Use half and half of the plain rice krispies cereal and half of the chocolate krispies cereal.
  • Chocolate Lover’s Treats : Use all chocolate krispies cereal, use a chocolate drizzle, and add in some chocolate candies like M&M’s, chopped candy bars, chocolate sprinkles, etc.
  • Colored Candy Melt Drizzle : Instead of the white drizzle use any colored candy melts like neon orange, green, or purple for Halloween colors.
  • Candy : Use any small shaped candy you want for these rice krispy treats. There are so many fun & colorful options at the store around this time year so pick your faves and add them in. Make sure you use the same amount of candy that’s called for in the recipe which is equal to 2 cups of candy.

How To Store Leftovers

Store the Rice Krispie treats at room temperature, inside an airtight container, for 3-5 days. I think Rice Krispies taste best within the first couple days as they are fresher and softer.

Tips For Success

  • To make pressing the gooey and sticky Rice Krispie treat mixture into the pan easier, spray a piece of parchment paper or wax paper with nonstick cooking spray (only one side of it) and then use it to lightly press the mixture into the pan. The side that has the spray on it should be touching the krispie treat. Keep your hands on the clean side. You can also use the underside of the butter wrapper to press the treats into the pan.
  • Leave the heat on low when melting the butter and marshmallows. Low and slow is the key to the best Rice Krispies. Be sure to stir it frequently to avoid the marshmallows form burning and to keep them smooth.
  • When pressing the treats into the pan it’s so important to press them very gently and lightly. You never want to firmly press and compact them into the pan. Pressing too hard or firmly can result in chewier, denser, and drier rice krispie treats.

Notes

Almond Bark : Use 2-3 squares of vanilla almond bark for the chocolate drizzle OR about 1/2 cup white melting wafers (Ghiradelli brand) or 1/2 cup white candy melts. Any of those options will work just fine. You can use white chocolate chips in a pinch, however, I suggest adding about 2 teaspoons of coconut oil or shortening to help it melt smoother and not seize up in the microwave.

Don’t Press Hard : When pressing the treats into the pan it’s so important to press them very gently and lightly. You never want to firmly press and compact them into the pan. Pressing too hard or firmly can result in chewier, denser, and drier rice krispie treats.
