Baked Cheesy Broccoli is made in a casserole dish with parmesan cheese, Boursin cheese, and fresh broccoli florets. It’s a cheesy broccoli side dish and a dump & go recipe that’s so easy!
This Boursin cheese broccoli bake is similar to this Creamy Broccoli Casserole with a buttery Ritz cracker topping.
Baked Cheesy Broccoli Recipe
Try this cheesy oven roasted broccoli for a deliciously cheesy twist to classic roasted broccoli! Fresh broccoli florets cook inside a baking dish with a wedge of Boursin Cheese – the flavor is out of this world yummy with the herbs and garlic from the Boursin cheese that melts right into the roasted, crispy charred broccoli pieces.
Makes for a delicious side dish for any dinner and it’s ‘fancy’ enough for holiday dinners as well. I am thinking it may even make an appearance at my family’s Thanksgiving dinner table this year.
Ingredients Needed
- Fresh Broccoli Florets : You need 5 cups of chopped broccoli florets for this side dish. You can buy heads of broccoli and cut them small (avoid as much of the green stems as possible) or buy a bag of pre-chopped broccoli florets and dump them into the baking dish. Even when I buy the bagged chopped broccoli, I will go through and chop off more of the stem just because my family prefers it that way.
- Olive Oil
- Garlic : Use fresh garlic cloves that have been minced or pressed, use chopped garlic from a jar, or garlic paste will all work.
- Kosher Salt and Black Pepper
- Fine Herb Boursin Cheese : This is a specialty cheese that you will find near the deli area of the store alongside the other cheeses. It’s a small round shaped cheese.
- Parmesan Cheese : Use freshly grated parmesan cheese, pre-shredded or grated parmesan cheese, or the shelf-stable grated parmesan cheese in this recipe. The parmesan cheese goes on after the bake time so there is no need to worry about it burning in the oven (fresh parmesan cheese tends to burn while in the oven).
How To Make Oven Baked Broccoli With Boursin Cheese (Printable Recipe Card)
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F.
Add the chopped broccoli, olive oil, garlic, salt, and pepper into a 9×13 baking dish. Stir to coat everything until combined.
Nestle the unwrapped Boursin cheese in the center of the broccoli mixture.
Bake for 25-30 minutes or until the broccoli is tender or cooked to your liking.
Remove the baking dish from the oven and stir the broccoli mixture into the melted Boursin cheese, until everything is mixed together well.
Sprinkle the parmesan cheese over the top and serve!
How To Store Leftovers
Leftovers should be stored in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 4 days. To reheat, microwave individual portions for 30-60 seconds at a time until heated through, stirring halfway through. I do not recommend freezing this recipe as the texture will be soggy and very unappealing once thawed.
Can I Make Substitutions?
- Olive Oil : Other oils that can be used are avocado oil or grapeseed oil. I prefer using ‘light tasting’ extra-virgin olive oil.
- Garlic : Use fresh garlic cloves or the equivalent (to 3 garlic cloves) of chopped garlic from a jar or garlic paste.
- Parmesan Cheese : Freshly shredded parmesan cheese can be used, pre-shredded bagged parmesan cheese, or shelf stable grated parmesan cheese can be used. Asiago cheese can also be used as a substitute.
Serving Suggestions
This oven baked cheesy broccoli makes a great side dish for dinner or for fancier holiday meals.
You can also serve it alongside some grilled chicken or oven baked chicken – try this Baked Garlic Parmesan Chicken, Cornflake Chicken, Crispy Lemon Parmesan Chicken, or Baked Caesar Chicken.
To make this more of a main dish, try serving it over some cooked rice of your choice. If you want more cheesy sauce then just add two things of Boursin cheese into the baking dish instead of only one.
Recipe FAQ’s
Can I Use Frozen Broccoli Instead of Fresh?
I highly recommend using fresh broccoli, however, you can use frozen broccoli if needed. Thaw the frozen broccoli completely to room temperature and drain it really well to remove excess moisture. I also would suggest using a paper towel to dab the broccoli to really ensure there is no moisture on it.
Can I Make This Boursin Cheese Vegetable Side Dish With Other Vegetables?
Yes! It’s really good made with Brussels sprouts or cauliflower. Follow the same directions just swap out the broccoli with a different vegetable. Some vegetables may need more or less time to cook until soft-tender, so just watch the time and check the vegetables before removing the pan from the oven.
Can I Add Pasta To Make It A Main Dish?
If you’re wanting to serve this over some pasta then you will need to double the Boursin cheese in the recipe. Instead of one use two of them. That way there will be enough sauce/cheese to serve over your cooked pasta of choice.
