Cake Mix Peach Cobbler Recipe (Cake Batter Easy Peach Cobbler Recipe)

This easy cobbler recipe – also sometimes called peach cobbler dump cake or cake mix cobblers – are perfect for any time of year. Whether its a summertime BBQ, gathering with friends and family, family dessert, or when you need a quick last-minute dessert for guests.

It’s one of the easiest desserts because it only needs 5 ingredients, and all those ingredients are shelf-stable, and perfect for keeping in the pantry. It starts with juicy peaches and then it is topped with a buttery topping that is simply a box of cake mix and butter.

Traditionally this dump cake cobbler dessert is made with canned peaches in heavy syrup. I prefer using peach pie filling because it’s sweeter, and has a thicker consistency, and I think it pairs better with the buttery yellow cobbler cake batter topping.

So if you need a simple dessert with simple ingredients, and something the whole family will LOVE – then this cake batter peach cobbler is a must-make for peach season 🍑

How To Store and Reheat Leftover Peach Cobbler

Any leftover cake batter peach cobbler should be stored in an airtight container, in the refrigerator, for up to 3-4 days. You can enjoy leftover cold or reheat individual portions in the microwave for 30-60 seconds and serve warm.

Pro Tips From The Test Kitchen

  • You could use any cake mix you prefer – such as a white cake mix, french vanilla, etc – but I highly recommend sticking with the yellow cake mix for the best buttery flavor. Any yellow cake mix variety works such as classic yellow cake mix, buttery golden yellow, etc. Just make sure you are using the smaller cake mix size in the 13.25 ounce. If using a larger one (like 15.25 oz) then remove 4 tablespoons of the dry cake mix and discard it, and use the remaining cake mix for the recipe.
  • This easy dump cake dessert is best enjoyed with a scoop of vanilla ice cream. My family loves vanilla bean ice cream, but you could even serve it with a peach cobbler ice cream or peach ice cream. Another option is to serve it with a dollop of freshly whipped cream on top – make homemade whipped cream, use Cool Whip, or store-bought spray whipped cream.
  • Raw sugar is a coarser sugar that can be found in the baking aisle. I love the texture and crunch it gives; however, if you can’t find it or just don’t want to purchase it, simply use granulated sugar instead.
  • After testing this recipe it is best to use unsalted butter. Normally I always bake with salted butter, but in this cake mix recipe, the unsalted butter tastes the best. Of course salted butter can be used if wanted/needed.
  • Feel free to switch this recipe up and use any canned pie filling. A cake batter blueberry cobbler (with blueberry pie filling), a cake batter mixed berry cobbler (with mixed berry pie filling), or use strawberry, blackberry, apple, or cherry pie filling. For some of the pie fillings you may not need or want the ground cinnamon, so just omit that. I think the ground cinnamon would work for any pie filling but it’s up to you.

Recipe FAQs

How Long Should I Cool The Cobbler Before Serving?

Let the cobbler cool for 5-10 minutes before serving. When it comes out of the oven, it is still too hot to eat without burning your mouth. By letting it cool a bit, it will still be warm when it’s time to serve, and the cobbler will have time to set and thicken up slightly.

What Is The Difference Between a Cobbler and a Crisp?

A cobbler is typically made with pie crust or a biscuit-like topping, it’s a softer cake-like topping like in this cake batter version. A crisp usually containers oats, flour, and sugar in a streusel type crumble topping.

Can I Make This Sweeter?

Peach pie filling is fairly sweet on it’s own, however, if you want it slightly sweeter you can sprinkle 1/4 cup granulate sugar over top the peach pie filling before adding the cake batter over top.

How Do I Serve Cake Batter Peach Cobbler?

My family thinks the best way to serve it is with a big scoop of ice cream. We love vanilla bean ice cream, but any vanilla ice cream works well. Other options include a peach pie ice cream, or peach cobbler ice cream, or you can simply dollop some whipped cream over top – either store-bought spray whipped cream, Cool Whip, or make homemade whipped cream. If you want to add some fresh peaches into the dessert, feel free to dice some fresh peaches up and garnish each serving with those.
