I love cute themed treats to make for the Holidays – especially halloween! It’s always my favorite holiday to bake for because of all the fun colors, characters, and spooky factor.

This candy corn dessert pizza has that classic candy corn look with orange, yellow and white frosting on top of a sugar cookie crust.

This desert pizza is so simple to make with ready-to-use sugar cookie dough + a simple buttercream frosting dyed to create a classic candy corn look.

Simply press the cookie dough into a pizza pan, bake it, and then make a simple frosting recipe in orange, yellow, and white and frost the cookie pizza. So cute, festive, and perfect for a halloween party or gathering.

Simple Ingredients Needed

  1. Refrigerated Ready-to-Use Sugar Cookie Dough : This comes in a roll or log shape and you will find it from the Pillsbury brand alongside the other refrigerated cookie dough products they offer.
  2. Butter : I prefer using salted butter but unsalted butter can be used just as well.
  3. Powdered Sugar
  4. Vanilla Extract
  5. Milk : I recommend using the highest fat milk possible such as half and half or heavy cream, it will provide the best flavor, creamy texture, and thickness to the frosting. Any milk can be used, but the less fat percentage it has then the less you will need of it.
  6. Gel Food Coloring : I recommend using gel food coloring because it won’t water down the frosting too much. It’s a much thicker consistency and it provides a better tint to the icing versus the liquid food dye. You will need orange gel food coloring and yellow gel food coloring.
Ingredients for halloween cookie pizza

Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly spray a 12-inch round pizza pan with cooking spray, or you can line it with parchment paper.

Unwrap the cookie dough and slice the log of cookie dough into 1/4-inch slices . Lay the slices all over around the pizza pan. Use your clean hands to smoosh and press them together to form a smooth, and even layer of ‘pizza crust’.

Bake the sugar cookie crust for 13-15 minutes, or until the edges are golden and the center is cooked through. Remove from the oven and let it cool completely on a wire cooling rack.

In a large mixing bowl or the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the butter until it is creamy and smooth; about 1-2 minutes.

Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition.

Add in the vanilla extract and milk, and beat until the frosting is light and fluffy and well combined.

Set aside 1/2 cup of the frosting for the white section. Then divide the remaining frosting evenly into two bowls for the yellow and orange colors.

Add yellow gel food coloring to one bowl and orange to the other. Mixing well until the desired shades are achieved.

Once the cookie crust is completely cooled, it’s time to frost! Start on the outside with the yellow frosting, then add the orange frosting inside, and finish off with the white frost in the center to get that classic candy corn look.

You can use a spoon, knife, or icing spatula to spread out the frosting. For clean lines and a cleaner look, consider placing each colored icing into a piping bag with a large 1A tip (or a large Ziploc bag with the corner snipped).

How To Store Candy Corn Dessert Pizza

  • Leftovers : Store any leftover slices inside an airtight container, at room temperature, for up to 2 days. For longer storage, you can store the slices in the refrigerator for up to 5 days. I actually prefer the pizza chilled so I love cold leftovers.
  • Make-Ahead Instructions : The sugar cookie crust can be baked a day in advance and stored, covered, at room temperature. Prepare the frosting ahead of time and refrigerate it. Bring everything to room temperature (mainly the frosting) before assembling and decorating the candy corn pizza.

Recipe Tips For Success

  • Pressing the sugar cookie dough into the pizza pan can get messy! Use a sheet of wax paper or parchment paper to press the cookie dough down evenly, ensuring it doesn’t stick to your hands. This will also help create a smoother surface for frosting later.
  • Ensure the sugar cookie pizza base is completely cool before frosting to prevent the buttercream from melting off.
  • I use piping bags with a large tip – or Ziploc bags (quart size or gallon size works fine) with the corner snipped – to add the three different colored frostings to the crust. It makes it super easy to control where each color goes. You get those clean candy corn stripes without the mess, and it keeps everything looking neat.
  • I recommend baking and decorating the candy corn pizza on the day of serving for the best presentation, texture, and taste.

Notes

Gel Food Coloring : I recommend using gel food colors because they provide a better color and they won’t mess with the texture of the frosting because the gel is thicker than the liquid regular food coloring. The ingredient photo shows purple gel food coloring and that is just to whiten up the white frosting if wanted. I never do this because it’s very easy to add too much. To ensure you get a white frosting try using clear vanilla extract. I use regular vanilla extract and think it turns out just fine.
