These green chili turkey tacos are one of our family favorites because they are so delicious, simple, and a 30 minute meal! Some may worry that the green chiles are too spicy for kids but they add so much flavor and when you combine it with cheese and sour cream it is so good and very mild. Just be sure to buy the mild green chilies and not the hot ones. I just told my kids they were green peppers because they love peppers! But, still none of them complained of spicy at all.
If you don’t want the chunks of green chile you could always put them in the blender and blend them up. That way you still get the flavor but don’t have the chunks in the meat. I know my kids don’t always like “chunks” in food so that is always an option. Feel free to add the entire can or just half of the can of green chiles.
Serve these yummy tacos with some shredded cheese, sour cream, and avocado or guacamole and you have a really delicious dinner. Another tip I always tell people is to heat up your corn taco shells. Either in the microwave or the oven. I put them on a plate in the microwave for about 40 seconds. Toasting the corn taco shells bring out a toasty corn flavor. And they get a really nice crisp to them too.
If you want to take your sour cream up a notch I’ll share this tip that I do every time I make tacos. Mix together 1 cup sour cream (I never measure, it does not have to be exact), juice from 1/2 of a lime, and milk as needed to thin it out. It only takes a couple minutes and really makes the sour cream taste so good.

- 1 lb ground turkey
- 1 small white onion (or 1/2 of a large), finely chopped
- 1 package (1 oz) taco seasoning
- 1 can (4.5 oz) chopped green chiles
- 1 can (2.25 oz) chopped black olives
- corn taco shells or soft flour tortillas
- shredded cheese, sour cream, chopped tomato, avocado
- In a large skillet pan cook the ground turkey and white onion over medium high heat until turkey is no longer pink and cooked through. Drain if needed.
- Add the taco seasoning, green chiles, and black olives into the meat and stir together. Let cook for a few minutes so everything can combine together.
- Serve with flour tortillas or corn taco shells and the taco toppings that you prefer.
If you prefer not to have the chunks of green chilies in the taco meat. Simply blend them up in a blender and then add to the meat mixture.
The ground turkey will also come in a 1.25 lb package and that is what I always use because that's all my grocery store sells. As long as your ground turkey is between 1 lb and 1.25 lb then you are fine.
Ground turkey does not have much fat but after cooking it you will end up with some liquid. I prefer to drain that. Do whatever you prefer.
